I walked past a new shop at my local shopping centre today. Its a little chinese shop, and it is advertising this 'new technology' that is apparantly sweeping the US. It is a detox and weight loss kind of thing that involves reflexology, foot spa and foot massage (from what i can gather). Apparantly the water that the feet are immersed in is simply water with sea salts, and you have to wear this 'special' band on your arm. From the pictures that the shop was advertising (which are always dramatised) you release toxins from your feet through the reflexology and foot spa.

I asked if it is safe to do it while breastfeeding and the man out the front said yes. But he hardly looked like a professional - and from the back of my mind something tells me that anything to do with 'detox' isn't safe whilst breastfeeding. BUT you dont consume anything, and its just sea salts in the water...

I cant remember the name of the treatment - will try and find the brochure that I picked up. What do you ladies think?

Its just sea salts that is used. From what I can gather from the brochure it is simply Chinese reflexology and a foot spa - but the advertisement in the shop window said that it was detoxing for the body and would assist weight loss.

Yep - thats the one  The water was foul in the after pic - I assume from the toxins that the body is releasing.

I think it would be okay - since it is just a detox removing stuff, I'm not actually absorbing anything (apart from sea salts). The body has electrons in it anyway, so the ionic technology shouldn't be an issue. I cant see how that would affect my supply or milk at all anyway...

But I just dont know :dizzy:

I'd do it, and I'm feeding The Boy on average 7 or 8 times over 24 hours.

Is this just the latest 'fad'? Im a fan of chinese medicine, but it has to be tailored to the individual and their body function and situation. Detox usually is for loosing fluid and needs a proper supervised follow up eating plan.

Eat less, exercise more and if feeding I'd seek medical advice first before trying anything.

I'd really look into it first, because detoxification can mean that toxins are expelled a number of ways through the body, including bodily fluids. I've heard warnings re doing detox or losing weight too quickly while breastfeeding because the toxins don't necessarily discriminate as to which ways they exit (ie. possibly breast milk). I have heard reports of toxins getting through the breast milk and causing repercussions for bubs.

Again, I'd just look into it a lot more before doing it.
