View Full Version : My DD is nearly 2 and still has not said the word "Mummy"...
My DD is nearly 2 years old and STILL has not ever said the word "Mummy"?!?!?! :crying:
She can say Daddy, Kong Kong (my father), Ma Ma (my mother) and even her new baby brother (Harrreee) but refuses to say Mummy - she knows who I am because if you say "where's Mummy?" she will point to me but won't say it. She even says Dorothy (Wiggles) and Olyphant (elephant) and about 50 other words but I have yet to ever hear her mention me.
She will even repeat words when you say them to her but as soon as you say "Mummy" she won't repeat it or just laughs at you or gives you that stubborn look as if we are playing that "buzz" game where you can't say the word! :(
How sad is that?! I thought I would at least get a mention in the top 50 word list but I'm still waiting!!! She even says the pet's names..... :banghead:
It sounds like she knows it annoys you!
I sometimes say to DS "say Mummy" and he looks at me, gives me a cheeky smile and says "Dad dad" and cracks up laughing
If she hasn't said it ever, what if you try getting someone else to try when you're not around? DS always calls it out when I'm not there.
My cousin is 2 in january, and she doesnt speak much at all, and I know alot of other 2 yr olds that dont talk. My cousin says woof woof, da for dad, and da when shes asking what something is. Thats about it. She'll ocassionaly say mummy.
I wouldnt worry, even though im sure its heartbreaking that she wont say your name. Hang in there, she will.. One day she'll suprise you :)

Yep i think she has worked out a button to push !
Maybe you could try a different version of mummy like mama or the likes & see what she does.
We have the problem of Boof now calling DP & myself by our first names
Well see that's the funny thing... no one really noticed it until I mentioned it to some family and friends recently that I have never heard her say "mummy" and then they realised that they have never heard her say it either!
Even my DH was playing cards with her tonight - showing her pictures on the cards and saying the words and she was repeating it .... then he said "Mummy" and silence from her! :banghead:
Hmmmm...... I'm sure we are going to have a VERY interesting mother/daughter relationship the way we are going!!!! :p

Aah yes I have this one too. Nothing like hearing "De-A......De-A.....where are you?" from your 2.5 yr old

Oh yes it wonderful when we are out cause as it is most people dont think he belongs to us anyways !
At least we can now get away with the 'he doesnt belong to us' when he goes into tantrum mode :p
DS2 calls DF by his first name, sounds funny coming from a 17mnth old lol.
Up until a couple of days ago I thought that my 2 year old didn't say mummy either. He says lots of other words, but everytime I say "say mummy" nothing but silence.
Then the penny dropped - when he says "me" he's actually saying the 'me' sound from mummy!
I guess I'm just around so much that he doesn't even need to bother saying the full word. :p
Bigglet, your DD sounds like she is going to be a very clever young lady!
gosh .. I'm a mean mum - but I would be getting some of her FAVOURITE food out .. and eating it .. and when she asked for some I would make her say please mummy ..
Jack learnt that he got WAAAY more attention when he said peese mumma (makes me melt.. he isn't silly) ..
we also get the first name thing .. but usually when we are in 'trouble' as in .. 'JAMMMIEE - where ARE you/??" as he wanders the house

Ariene is 20 months and isn't saying Mummy. She just says "Dada!" and a few other words :)

LOL.... actually I've tried that.... she will say "please" but omit the mummy even though I keep saying "say please mummy". And being the little stubborn child that she is she will rather forgo the nice tasty food or the Wiggles that she really really wants to watch on TV rather than say it!!! :hair:

My now 3 year old didn't say "mummy" much at all. He started saying it well after he was 2yrs old... maybe when he was around 2 and a half or so.
I wouldn't worry too much :)

Dont worry- DS is 20 months and has only just started saying Mummy the last couple of days. He has known how to say it for months, as i have heard the occassional slip up lol. But for some odd reason he just doesnt really wanted to say it. Weird child.
If i say mummy he says daddy straight back at me!
What about when she cries? do you get a big MUMMY:hissy:
Nope.... I just get "WAAAAAHHHH".... :crying:
And I hear a LOT of "DADDEEEE"!!!! All the time even when he is not around or not home!!!
Ah well.... I guess it's not uncommon by the sounds of it... just breaks your heart... I mean I went through all those labour pains for her - the least she could do is acknowledge me!!! :p
