We are currently going through Dr McMaster (mater) at the moment and my son has epilepsy. We have no actual diagnosis at the moment and my son is now on three meds with none of them helping the seizures at all. An eeg is booked for january 10th, but the doctor just keeps telling me I have to wait and see how it goes.
I am seriously starting to think I need a second opinion but have no idea where to go. Anyone got any ideas? I am especially looking for a doctor with epilepsy experience IYKWIM.
is the doctor a nuerologist? if not id book into one of them. all you need is a referral to see one from your gp. i have partial absence seizures and both my sons have seizures. ds1 grew out of them and they were all febrile related. ds2 has partial seizures where he goes blank his jaw shakes and breathing becomes irratic. i cant believe your son is on 3 meds and hasnt even had an eeg yet. has he had an mri? my youngest had an eeg which was abnormal so we are booked in for an mri as there are other things that can cause seizures other than epilepsy.
i was on tegretol and for me it did nothing at all. now i am on keppra and its made a world of difference. so meds are a bit of trial and error.
as for me i originally saw a private nuero on the gold coast but i found the public ones at the gold coast hospitla fine and free . my sons both have gone thru the paeds publically thru the gold coast hospital and they r fantastic there. a special mention of dr schmidtt.
:flowerz:
good luck with it all.
btw there is a queensland epilepsy website you may find helpful into finding a doctor specialising in epilepsy
