Hi there,

What do you use on bub's face when they have eczema?

My bub has eczema on her forehead and just under her eye. I started using cortisone, but I am scared of using it because it is so close to her eye (you know glaucoma and cataracts..). It's only .5%, and even in adults it is only recommended to use up to 1% on the face..

At the moment I am using sorbolene. Someone suggested using paw paw ointment, but I am a little reluctant because I am scared it will make it worse. Has anyone tried this?

What else can I use? It isn't extremely bad, but I am worried it is going to get worse or spread if I don't do anything :(

Thanks in advance.

It should ease it a little, i have put 1% cortizone on dd if its really bad but made sure i have wiped it off when she was sleeping etc prefer not to use it on her face unless i have too though

I never thought about wiping it off when putting her to sleep! That's such a good idea.

I think if it gets worse in the next couple of days I will use the cortisone. How long did you use it for before you saw a good result?

Thanks for the info, punkbaby :)

Depending how bad it is, shes on ecolin cream its prescription, i have used hydrozole too (sp is so wrong on these sorry) usually i see the redness ease in about 24 hours but takes about 3 days to clear up usually.

When i do the cold wraps though on her limps its pretty much over night really.

If you do put it on her face just watch her so she doesnt rub into eyes etc or mouth, even if a little gets to settle in if she doesnt have it severely it should help a little

Elocon cream? :) I have used hydrozole on her nappy rash cos I was worried it got fungal! But thankfully, it went away quickly.

I will see if I can get my hands on some Elocon (dad or sis might have some samples). I thought they stopped making it a while ago.. so I never thought of using it now!

Thanks so much! This morning it looks like it is dying down a bit. I kept putting on sorbolene cream overnight and I think it has helped a little. Only thing is that DD now has a deep scratch on her face and there is blood all over her cot sheet because she was rubbing her head on the matteress :(

Poor wee thing!

DS has Elocon cream it's really good, I was told not to use it on his face though.

Paw paw ointment is GREAT stuff, I adore it! If only it was cheaper over here, it's $20 odd for the small tub, I would buy it for about $5 over there! :crying:

You can get a really good aqueous type cream from the chemist or your GP can prescribe it for you (it's about $6.50 for a big tub over here) and when DS gets a really dry face we just sit while he plays and I wipe it on every 5 minutes, wipe, let it soak in, wipe again, let it soak, wipe again....works great.

The cream is called Cetomacrogol Cream, it'd like aqueous but a bit greasier so there's more of a protective layer. :)

Hope this helps. :)

A good thing i found to ease the inflamation of ezcema is chamomile tea... Made up normaly... Allow to cool to room temp and use a cotton ball and dab over the face... Doing this along with the paw paw i found was higlty affective and allowed it to heal...
Also if you are luck enough to find some or buy a plant from a nursery pure aloe vera is 'the best'..

Elocon is good but it's such a strong ointment that I try and refrain from using it especially on infants and children.

I highly recommend David Hosking's face and body balm which is excellent for eczema especially on the face and near the eyes.

Thanks so much for all the responses.

I thought that it may be better I take her to the GP and see what they say. I have been prescribed Elidel for her as it is apparently good for sensitive areas like the face.

I am only supposed to use it for 5 days and see how we go.

I will keep an update on here incase someone does a search.

I found Elidel excellent for the face, but didn't work so well other places, like hands and body.

Be careful of papaw cream, as mostly it is a very small percent of papaw, set in petrolium (vaseline), so not exactly kind to sensitive skin.

The best greasy stuff I've found is QV intensive or Dermeze, which is basically white paraffin. We also use Dermaid soft 1% and have been assured that we can use it up to 3 times a day on DD's skin (from 4.5mths), without fear of it thinning her skin. Of course, we still take extra precautions for sun exposure etc. We generally only use it at night now, but during winter might use it twice a day.

We've also dropped back to only bathing once every two or three days, or more. If she's filthy from playing outside, I top and tail her with a damp cloth, otherwise, it is just dermaid, QV and her Zyrtec drops, which she has twice a day and we really noticed when we had to stop before she went back to the allergist.

Good luck and :hugs:

Thanks so much, youngones. Her eczema has gotten SO much better already! It literally went down overnight! Thank goodness. I will continue with the Elidel for a couple more days until is disappears. I just hope it doesn't keep coming back :( Poor DD.

Thankfully she only has it on her face so i don't wash her face much (around her eyes and her forehead).
