Hi Ladies,

I am wondering if any of you have heard of Nail Polish being a "no-no" in the first trimester?

I had a manicure and pedicure yesterday in preparation for my sister's wedding Thursday, and now I am hearing that I shouldn't have done it! Arrrggghhh!! I don't normally wear nail polish, but am worried now. Also wondering if anyone knows of a safe nail polish remover that I can use?

Help please!

I wouldn't FREAK ... :hugs:

I have heard that your cuticles (sp?) are very receptive to chemicals etc ..

how long till the wedding??? I would just leave it all there (looking stunning) till the wedding .. then wash it off with acetone free remover>???

I"m of course not a GP . though :)

I remember one of the first threads I read on bubhub was about this  I too was HORRIFIED .. and freaked out .. oh dear ..

note - hospitals aren't keen on nail polish at the end of pregnancy either - they tend to state that you need to hvae clean nails, something about circulation monitoring or something??? cant remember - but in case the birth doesn't got to plan .. I make sure mine is off before the end of pregnancy :)

Oh boy, I am starting to feel nice and (sexy) pregnant looking and painted my toe nails the other day for the first time in AGES. Oh well. I agree with veve - don't freak out about it. If it were that important the danger would be much more advertised.
Good to know about the end of the pregnancy thing though.
Have a great wedding!
Hey, I just realised I clicked on the wrong "due in" section. I am due in June and clicked on the wrong one. Sorry for crashing your thread! He he he... Placenta brain!!! Take care and all the best, mums-on-the-other-side-of-the-baby-bonus!

Thanks Ladies - I am just horrified at how much I don't know!! I've done so many things wrong (unintentionally) it's not funny!!

Just yesterday, I had a craving for a Bacon Deluxe Burger from Hungry Jacks (haven't had one in years) and then got half way through it before I realised it had bacon on it!! Talk about placenta brain!! Oh well, I picked off the rest of the bacon and ate the patties anyway.

Then I realised that our soap on tap has Lavender in it - have changed that now. :ecomcity:

And my lovely husband put incence on to "freshen up" the house a bit after the damp weather - only for me to come out and put it out due to unknown essential oils.

I have decided that I can only do what I can, and nature will take care of the rest - have decided to leave the nail polish on (it's only for a few days) and then take it off on Friday with a non-acetone remover.

Noosamumtobe - where are you having bubba? I am at Caloundra and will be going to Selangor with Dr Weaver.

If anyone has suggestions on a safe nail polish remover, I would be grateful!

I am pregnant with baby no 3 and admit there is nothing better than a good pedicure when you are pregnant and as I work in the airline industry I have always had gel nails and both my girls are okay and my obstetrician never told me not to!!!!!

I say enjoy your beautiful toes and especially your sisters special day

Merry Christmas

re: bacon etc .. I eat bacon  I only avoid deli meats (uncooked) and meats like salami ..

I eat ANY meats .. if they are sizzling hot .. :D (next time you go to HJs just make sure that you order a burger that is altered (different amount of dressing .. etc) so that they HAVE to make it fresh for you :)

In Aust the risk of eating dodgy food is lower than in other countries :)

m2be - I'm also going to Selangor with Dr Kirsten Small. Will check out your due date. I'm due 26th/27th June (Dr vs Radiologist!) so I may be in hospital same time as you - you never know!
Re: the nail polish remover, I am pretty sure there is one in Woolies called "Herbal Nail Polish Remover" which doesn't contain acetone. Not sure if there are any other chemicals in it to avoid but maybe worth a look into.
And I can't get enough bacon. I make sure it's either freshly cooked or I cook it myself (same with eggs - need to be cooked properly) but try not to get too caught up in strict rules. After a while, you get sick of living in a bubble. I'm not suggesting you go out, eat raw meat whilst on a rollercoaster, lifting a heavy box but don't beat yourself up if you do something unintentionally. Many women survived pregnancy before we had the internet to make us paranoid. I think if you look hard enough on the internet you are most likely to find an article saying pretty much everything is unsafe for pregnant women. I was told not to eat any un cooked deli meats, soft cheese, lay off the caffeine & just basically not too much of the same thing and I'll be fine
Try not to stress too much and enjoy your pregnancy.
All the best.

What's wrong with lavender? I thought that one was ok? It's a nice calming one.

My ob said bacon is fine if you cook it.

Hi Fludo - because lavender is a relaxing oil and relaxes your body... when pregnant if you take a bath in lavender it can relax your muscles and in that way it can relax your cervix and can be the cause of you to go in to premature labour. I also read in another thread on this site that one lady was under the impression that Lavender could also lower baby's heart rate.

As all of the previous ladies have said - everything in moderation, possibly a little bit wouldn't hurt, but I guess I'm just trying to control the areas that I can, so that when I can't it's not such a big deal! :D

Well aside from sleeping really well during harvest, I haven't gone into labour, so i guess I'm doing OK!
