View Full Version : how much milk and when?
Good morning girls.
Please can somebody help me. My baby is nearly 11 months and weaned from the breast about one week ago.
I am still floundering in the dark when it comes to bottle feeds.
How much formula milk does your baby have each day and what times? How much total am i aiming to get into her? HOw do you know how much to mix up each time - there seems to be so much waste involved.
She has started waking 2 times a night and i am not sure if it is hunger or habit....

DS used to have 3 formulas a day at that age and water in between. Maybe make half a bottle, remember if his been on the breast its on tap so to speak, so he may want top ups during the day :)

Hi there,
I think at 11 months the recommended amount is 3 bottles of around 200mls each time. I just put the recommended amount of water in the bottles and add the formula - your tin should specify the number of scoops. Give it a shake and pop them in the fridge! Made up bottles have to be used within 24 hours though so it is a daily task to make them up.
I would try one when your bubby wakes, then a lunch time bottle and one in the evening and see how you go.
Hello ziggy29
Not sure how much to give but the easiest way (we find) to organise the bottles is after you've washed and steralised everything, fill with boiled water to the required amount and put in the fridge with caps on. When you need a bottle take it out, remove teat/lid and nuke until required temp, add formula (which we've already pre-scooped into one of those little formula containers), shake, check temp and insert teat into hungry baby's mouth.
I don't know how many bottle you have but I would suggest making 3 x 200mls and a couple of smaller ones (say 100mls) for snacks and see how that goes.
Don't forget that boiling water 'shrinks' when it's cooled so put about an extra 10-20mls in and you can always tip a little out if there's too much when you go make a bottle up.
As a guide we nuke for:
200mls - 42secs
100mls - 25secs
