Hi there,
I have 1kg of red smarties. I can't eat them because they have cochaneal in them.
I was wondering what I could bake with them to give to someone? I have thought about biscuits and something to do with xmas, but I don't have any recipes for it!
Anything else I could make?
ETA: Actually, I have closer to 2 kgs of them!!!

you could make a basic yo yo or melting moments recipe and pop them in it, you could make a nice cake and cover it in them as well.
Do you have any neices or nephews, maybe get some celophane and some ribbon and make a few bundles for them.
They would look nice on a table for centrepieice like things in a nice glass or something but i wonder if people would eat them??
You could just use any basic biscuit recipe, and use a xmas tree cutter, and decorate them with green icing and red smarties as the baubles on the tree.
Or mix them into the biscuit dough, sort of like choc chip biscuits.
Make a cake, ice it and top it with smarties? That would use up quite a few!
Bit stumped. I'd just eat 'em by the handful! Maybe wrap up some in little individual bits of cellophane or something, easy thing to give to kids as a gift?

Yeah I'd put them into a clear container as a table centrepiece - if you could find a heap of green ones, it'd look very christmassy :tree:

Well.. to make a long story short, my sister had 9kgs of smarties and none of my family eat cocheneal, so we picked out all the red ones - and I offered to take it :)
I have no idea what my sister is going to do with 9kgs of them!

OMG! You can't really bake with jelly beans, can you? I would get so sick of eating them!

I like the idea of the centrepiece, and yeah, I don't really want them to go to waste, which is partly why I took them off my sister because I didn't want to see them get chucked out (I have a thing about wasting food :() Hubby's family eat cocheneal, so I was thinking of baking something for them and taking it over.
Although, I could just take it over xmas day in a bowl and I am sure people will eat them..
