Hi everyone.
I posted in here a month ago asking if anyone had any experence with low lying placenta causing pre term birth. Just had some more questions for you all.
I have been going well with no bleeding at all for the last 3 weeks:yelclap:
My ob has said to me that there is still a great risk of more big bleeds after 28 weeks (i am nearly 27weeks now) and that if I do have a bleed they cant stop they will have to go ahead and deliver the baby early.
So today they got me to go to the hosp to get a steriod shot to help the babys lungs develop and I have to get another one tomorrow.
It is just in case and of course we are hoping the little one will be able to stay in there for a long time yet. I think my doctor is just being careful because I have already had so much bleeding.
Did any of you get the steriods while you were preg with your premmies? Do you think it helped? Did you get any side effects?
Thanks for all your help with my questions and I hope you are all having fun getting ready for Christmas:noel:

I didn't get any steriods when preg with my DD and I should've, would've made a difference if I did, DD wouldn't have had so much trouble when she was born

hope ya little one stays in there for quite a while yet

I had two shots of steriods whilst I was pregnant as it was becoming obvious I would have an early baby.
As it turned out 26 weeks.
I'd like to think it helped as she is here today however her lungs were still not developed enough.
Obviously the longer you go the better.. I'm sure you and bub will be just fine. Good luck.

I went into premature labour at 32 weeks and I got the steroid shots. Ironically, my DD was 10 days overdue. Go figure.

I had steroid shots when storm nearly come at 27 weeks she was two weeks over, with indie i was the same, they gave them to me as well and she was 2 weeks over too.

The only thing that i had was a very sore leg/bum where they gave me the shots it was like the after affects of tetenus.

Storm was born 2.3kgs and indie was 2.6, they were allowed to come home that next day despite being small which was great :) (mind you i have small babies their birth weight wasnt due to the steroids) They did say that storm would have had to stay in but as she had the steroids she was good to go otherwise they would have kept her in for a few weeks

I had steroid shots with Edward, 2 24 hours apart I think and although they stung I am so glad I had them. He was 845g at birth but only needed CPAP (continous positive airway pressure) and no intubation! and he was on room air CPAP which I do not think he would have managed if he had not had the steroids.

with DD I had the 2 steroid surfactant shots at 33 weeks and had her by emergency c section 24 hours after the 2nd injection.

she was 1152 grams at birth, breathing on her own and was only on CPAP so she wouldnt over-exert herself and was only on it for about 48 hours all up. (she was trialed of it and put back on for a 2 day period)

I believe she wouldnt have done very well at all with her breathing if i hadnt had the injections.

I only found that i bruised where the injections were administered, but no side effects

Thank you so much for sharing your stories with me. It is nice to hear how the injections have helped other peoples little ones! I will let you all know how we get on.
I wish you all a very merry christmas and a safe and happy 2008.
