DS doesn't tend to play with toys if they aren't out for him

He has three tubs of toys in the lounge room, yet doesn't seem to get the concept that he can get them out.

DH is always complaining that DS doesn't play with his toys he has, so why get him more, yet he gets grumpy when they are out all over the lounge room and wants them put away.

So it is two pronged I spose:

What do you do with your childrens toys? Where do you store them? Will he learn to get them out (he is 14mnths)?

How can I convince DH that the toys should stay out until DS goes to bed?

Both of my kids have been quite happy to help themselves to their toys. DD is now 16 months and we have a couple of tubs of toys in the lounge room. She won't hesitate to pull everything out!:laughing:

Maybe show your DS what he is allowed do? Sit with him and make a game of taking toys out (then when the time comes you can make a game of putting them away again).

Or each morning get a few different things out for him to play with. He'll soon figure out that he can do it himself if he's encouraged.

I'm also a big believer of only tidying the toys once day (if that :o). It only takes a second to throw them back in a tub after bed time.

As for your DH, I think he needs to get over having toys all over the floor! ;):)

my ds2 is 17mnths and has only in the last few months really gotten interested in his 'toy box'.. He has a red wagon thing with pooh bear on the side. It is reasonably big so I use it as his toy box. It's cool, I can drag it around at cleanup time ;)

Up until about 3-4mnths ago I had to get toys out for him.

oh and my DF whinges about the same things.. He came home one night after work and cracked it, making some comment about not having 'Sh8t everywhere for me to trip over when I get home'.. I didn't respond very nicely to that and he has learnt to keep his mouth shut lol. If he helped around the house I might care a little more.

we have three toy boxes, one in the bedroom one in the lounge and one in the shed. I find they always play in the lounge so i tend to swap them around each month so they play with something new, for some reason they wont go down to the bedroom to play LOL

I mix all their toys together and storms room is the big one (she will share with indie in a few months) so her room is like the play room as well at the moment but they dont play in there anyhow!!

Thanks for the feedback ladies....

He is a very laidback child...never very inquisitive, and always happy just to cruise along playing with whatever is in front of him, so I think I will make it more of a game to take the toys out of the tubs!

Seems such a shame to have all those toys going to waste at the bottom of the tub....

and as for DH, I guess I'll just have to tell him to get over it! ;)
