For tracking your ovulation (we want to get it down pact as we are going to try for a boy so we have to be spot on to the day) I want to use a stream test ovulation kit and was thinking of combining this with basal body temp tracking.

My question is, do you have to buy the special BBT thermometer or can you use any? I wanted to buy one of the ear ones, I have used them before while working in child care and they are great and so quick (and handy for when i do have a baby) and was hoping one of them will do the same trick. ??

I cant think of any reason a BBT one would measure any different to an ear one however there seems to be specific BBT ones around...

Hi Nicole:)
The Fertility Friend Wedsite says that an ear thermometor should not be used whilst trying to get your basal temp - it must be through mouth, vagina or rectum for the most accurate result.

The basal ones are more accurate than the regular digital ones as they give 4 digit temp results as opposed to regular ones. Eg digital would say 36.5 and basal would say 36.59. It may not sound like much of a difference but when trying to pinpoint the exact moment of O that extra number makes the world of difference.

The basal thermometors are usually kept near the pregnancy tests in chemists and you can get them for around $20 on eBay.

Hope this helps:)

Absolutely:) The basal ones will give you a far more accurate temp for your child too whenever you need it. They are just more precise and can be used by the whole fam.
