Im suffering a case of gastro :barf:

I cant get an appointment with a Dr - does anyone know if its still OK to keep b/fing? I dont really want bubba to catch it, but I dont want to not feed for a couple of days.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will come along...but I am sure I remember in the dark recesses of my mumbled brain that you should keep feeding as the antibodies you are making to fight the gastro will be past onto bubs so that they are protected from getting it? So it works almost like an immunity.....

Oh you poor thing! Just wanted to send you some :hugs:

I had gastro a couple of weeks ago but I ff so DF was able to handle the feeds.

Get some gastralyte (I think it's called) from the chemist to keep you hydrated.

Hope you're feeling better v soon. :flowerz:

I had gastro last week, and was so sick! I ended up getting my 18mo minded, and lay in bed with my 9 week old all day bfing him on and off the whole time. I was so worried he'd catch it off me, but he didn't :).

Hope you feel better soon.

Keep feeding, keep well hydrated. Gastrolyte, icypoles etc.

You can't take things like Immodium etc when bf'ing.

What a pharmacist told me when I had gastro and was bf'ing was this:

Boil plenty of water, and then cook some white rice in it. Drain off the water and drink it when it has cooled.

After that, you will feel better, so then add some grated raw apple and a small sprinkle of sugar to the cooked rice and eat it. The apple contains Pectin which is a time honoured remedy for gastro. The rice is a bland food for energy and some amino acids.

Bubby will be fine, aardvark has some brilliant advice (as usual :)) and please be sure to wash your hands heaps and heaps. Get some of that no-water hand sanitiser and keep your hands meticulously clean.

:hugs: Hope you get better soon. Bubby will be fine, your body is fighting hard against the bug and those good-soldier-antibodies are passed on to bubby.

Thank you all! I'll keep on feeding - antibodies makes sense.

Pectin eh? Is that why a piece of toast with jam always makes me feel better I wonder.

Yep definitely keep feeding!

I had a vomiting/gastro bug last week and DS was the only one in our house not to get it. I've fed him through quite a few illnesses, he's never got any of them.

just something that always worked for my son when he was younger. a banana about a day before fully ripe, should still have dry floury type taste...sort of binded him up a bit ( not to point of constipation though) good luck
