View Full Version : Cerebral Palsy
Hi I am Suzee mum to 3 beautiful children. My eldest is 7yrs old and a hemiplegia. She had a stroke in the womb and CP was the result.
Just wondering if there were any other CP mums/dads here.

Hi! Im sorry I dont have any experience with CP but i just wanted to say :hugs: to you and your daughter.
:tree:
hey
What type of CP does your DS have, my dd doesnt have a Cp diagnosis as such she has chiari malformation ( brain spine problem) and as a result she has ataxia, which can be a form of CP we are seeing the neuro and neuro surgens in january and CP ataxia is likely to be her DX caused by her CM
its all new to us for so long she has been a GI baby with seizures

Hey,
My son was classed as cerebral palsy at about 14 months of age after a growth and developement session. This classification was put down to his lack of ability to use his muscles to do what he should be doing as he cannot crawl, walk, talk or even use his hands to lift or hold anything.
So yes i am a cerebral palsy mum too but his is due to lack of blood and oxygen to the brain during birth which resulted in severe brain damage. If you would like to read his story click the link below.(warning it longish)
Hi, sorry I haven't replied sooner.
Well my daughter has a Hemiplegia, it affects her right side both arm and leg. We have tried a few different splints on her since about 18mths and it seems that they haven't done anything to help her. She has had botox on a number of occasions which seemed to help her quiet a bit. She is due to see the doctors again in April and August so discuss whether or not to have surgery.

I'm not sure if they have given Reece's cerebral palsy a particular name, doctors just told me that they have classified him as cerebral palsy due to his muscles not allowing him to do what he needs to eg he is 21 months old now and can still not hold his own bottle, feed himself, hold anything on his own, crawl, walk, bear weight etc basically he is a big baby.We are still waiting to here back from the cerebral palsy & rehabilitation clinic and we filled out the forms months ago.Doctors have suggested that there is a good chance with Reece that botox will help but have yet to have any.
That is how Anita was. At about 8mths I noticed that she try and hold her bottle but her right hand was clenched tight. If I tried to open it it just closed back up again. So I took her to see my GP and he said that he wanted to keep an eye on her for a month and see if things changed. After the month he said that things were the same as before and he wanted her to see a Neurologist, so off we go to the RCH and get told that it looks like she may have CP. We were booked in for a MRI in Feb 2001 and when we went back to see the Neurologist he said that is looks as though she had a stroke in the womb and that she has a hemiplegia.
She sat up on her own at about 18mths and was commando crawling from about 15mths. She started to walk when she was closer to 2 but was speaking clearly from 19mths.
She had her 1st batch of botox when she 2 1/2yr and it started to work the very next day. The reason I know this is because we went out shopping and she just lost control of her leg and fell, which resulted in her chipping her 2 front teeth. She has had botox ever since and has it every 6-12mths. It fantastic for her leg but in her arm it has been no improvement. Her hand and arm are so tight that surgery is the next option for us.

Reece's hands have improved with just physiop but he still tends to clench them alot especially when he doesn't want you to touch him.He has been see a neurologist since birth plus the many other doctors involved in his case.Did the doctor say how the stroke happened in the womb or what may have caused it??You don't have to answer if you don't want to.Reece has yet to show anty signs of crawling, walking, talking etc.i am in fear that he never will as things are no looking very positive in them areas plus recently Reece has been officially diagnosed as blind as he does not have any peripheral vision and can only see around the edges of his eyes so i guess that is also a major factor in doing them things too.I only wish he could at least do 2 things and thats toilet himself and feed himself but it is also not looking good.Fingers crossed improvement will come with age.And hopefully he can get some botox injections to help him.
TC.
