Does anyone know how old a baby can be nursed on the plane, before having to
pay to have his/her own seat.
Thanxs
if they are going to sit on your lap the whole time you dont need to pay for an extra seat its only if they actually occupy a seat by themselves.(thats when u pay)
they limit the age to 2 years old. I guess coz otherwise I would prolly sit on my mums lap for a free plane ride!!

After 2 years of age you must purchase a ticket for them. Prior to this you are actually unnable to purchsae a ticket even if you want the extra seat. Which in some ways I get, but what if you have a huge 18month old - squishy!!
You are allowed to purchase an extra seat - just not in the babies name. Some parents do this and take the baby capsule or car seat to use for the flight (except for take off and landing when you have to hold them). Personally I always just ask for a spare seat to be put next to us if possible on check in - a few weeks ago they gave me a row of four seats (it was a jumbo) for the three of us so we all had one and there was one for the books and toys!

How does that work?? Who's name does it go under, do you book two seats for yourself??

When we were relocated interstate by DH's new company they paid for a seat for Chloe even though she wasn't quite 2. So I know it's possible. I thought the seat was in her name but my memory may be faulty on that point.
I'd probably recommend getting bub a seat if you can afford it, just to have the space. I think toddler fares are discounted but you'd have to check with the airline.

They fly free up until they are 2 & then pay 1/2 fare until they are 12 (if I'm not mistaken). If they are under two but look older it is always best to carry a copy of their birth certificate to prove their age.

When I flew recently with DD (she was 6 months old) they gave me an extra seat & the boarding pass just INF for infant, this was through Qantas. I had no idea that they would discount the fare for a child, thats pretty good of them :smiliedance:

We are flying in November to Sydney with brooke .. can you take a pram ??
I have no idea ..
I took my pram & porta cot as well as two bags, I was over the baggage limit & was quite prepared to pay excess baggage but the man at check in was very nice & said not to worry about it, as they understand we need these items when travelling with an infant. They wrapped my pram in a big plastic bag to limit damage & stop it from getting dirty & when I got off the plane in Adelaide & had to walk along the tarmac alone with bubby & a happy bag, the baggage handler pulled up with his little cart & offered to get my pram for me, all in all, I had a pretty good experience flying with bub, I hope you do too:fingerscrossed:
When we flew last year (internationally, domestic is different), we paid 10% of the adult fair for my 9mth old DS and he also got 10kg of luggage and no seat of course. We were told that after 2 years you pay 75% of the adult fair. We took an umbrella stroller on as carry on luggage (we had a couple of stopovers). You can take what you like in your checked in luggage (within reason), but you would just have to pay if you have excess weight.
I'm sure the charges vary from airline to airline. We flew Royal Brunei to Frankfurt.:)
