A friend and I disagreed on this issue yesterday so I was curious of others views on it...

Absolutely!! There are 3 major phrases repeated in our family on Christmas Day:

"Merry Christmas!!"
"Smell those mothballs!"
and
"SAVE THE PAPER!!!" :D

I ask that when ever we get gifts not to wrap now to put them in a bag or something that we can reuse again. Otherwise i will re use it if i can unwrap it without ruiining it, if i cant i will recycle in the bin etc.

My kids decorate our butchers paper to wrap gifts adds a special touch

ok cool !

I am a wrap re user... If I can get it off without a tear I fold it up and reuse it *scum bag I know lol*

With the boys (who obviously rip to shreds ) I pop it in the recycle bin..but my friend yesterday said I shouldnt recycle wrap, that its not suitable...

Umm its paper how can it be unsuitable LOL!

If we manage to save a few bits we will use it for craft like sticking paper etc that sort of thing but i thought it was recyclable, it broke down in my compost anyhow

Who will know if you re-use paper!!!??? Even if someone gives me a gift this year, wrapped in the paper I wrapped their gift in last year, I wouldn't realise it. I can't remember what kind of paper I used last year!!

I cant see how it would be a problem... but i guess it would be best to remove all tape first.

Why not? Wrapping paper is so expensive!!! I have a box in the cupboard that I put used paper in, and I save all the gift bags as well. If I have nothing suitable newspaper or brown paper with a bit of curling ribbon will suffice. Looking forward to Jack being big enough to decorate it.

I have such a reputation for this in my family, that when I wrapped my sister's boyfriend's birthday present in newspaper with a reused bow thing on top, he took it off and said 'here, did you want this back?'

Thats not scum bag. I do the same thing. I really doubt anyone would even notice, and if they did, I would be very suprised if anyone complained.

I put the ripped stuff in the recycle bin as well:thumbsup:

I'm not a re-wrapper. In fact I buy cheap crazy clarks paper because it tears easier :p

My MIL is a saver, not for the environment but because she's cheap :p She also saves gift tags (mind you, I laughed at her and she stopped LOL because they're already recycled as she uses old Chrissy cards to make them)

There is nothing more satisfying than staring at a present for a month then tearing into it!

I am a ribbon freak and always always save the ribbon (well real ribbon not the stuff that curls with scissors) I have a big gift bag full of lots of smaller bags inside it we save for gifts. Worse yet I got the bag from my grams place when we moved her so some were hers :o Sometimes I save wrapping paper. It depends on the paper and quality. I think I have so many bags because Im not really a gift bag person unless it is wine or something incidental. I love wrapping gifts up beautifully and take a lot of time to do it and dont mind buying paper but I also like to reuse the nice stuff so its not wasted by putting it in the bin

I reuse it all- I've wrapped some chrissy presents with birthday paper just today! I also use alot of the boys artwork that is so 'lovely' it should be turned in to wrapping paper.

I don't tell the kids to not rip the paper though as I don't want to be on their case about everything and be a spoilsport IYKWIM.

I rewrap used wrapping paper but mainly for kids presents because they are just going to tear the paper anyway. When I used to give them nice crisp paper and they tore straight through it - it used to make me cringe somewhat! Strange I know!! Now I don't feel bad because it's been used already :D

Anyway I wouldn't care if someone gave me a present in used paper! Although it's nicer if they gave me new paper so I could reuse it...

Sometimes I do, if not damaged. I also sometimes incorporate pieces into papercrafts.

I ALWAYS reuse gift bags, some have been used between our family network over 5 times or more!

Gawd, imagine how stingy she would think I am, I am wrapping Christmas presents with brown packaging paper that I have saved from packages throughout the year

we do the same thing in our family. paper is saved if it can be re-used and gift bags are always missing tags that come with the bag as it does the rounds.

for my bestie's baby shower i actually re-used her paper that she wrapped my gift with 2 years ago. she thought it said 'baby baby' on it but it actually said 'baby boy' - she is having a boy so i used it for her gift and she did remember and loved it.

there is nothing wrong with recycling paper. if the kids save it good but if they want to tear they can do that too.

Does anyone use material to wrap? i've often wondered how well that works - considering issues with tape and different sized pressies.

Tea towels are good to wrap kitcheny type presents with, just tie a ribbon around the top.

Draw on calico its the best for wrapping and you just tie it off with ribbon or brown string :)

Your friends and family should be happy that you are doing your part to preserve our planet for their kids, they should admire you for your sensability and follow suit.
People are so wrapped up in everything looking perfect or being 'the best' when all their doing is sacrafising the time our children and grandchildren will have to enjoy our earth.
Most paper of the sort have non toxic ink so our kids wont be poisoned by getting it into their mouths and lets face it... kids will get ANYTHING into their mouths given the chance. So if its safe enough for our kids its safe enough for compost.
Another use could be to pulp the paper down and make more paper or card for craft... maybe next yrs homemade xmas cards!!??
Merry xmas to all and a happy new year!!

i dont recycle gift wrap as it is usually far too teared!

but i religiously hoard gift bags and ribbons to use again and make sure that gift wrap ends up in the recycling bin...

oh i usually reuse celophane as it doesnt rip!
