How long would you expect a hemp booster to last for before it has to go to the big hemp crop in the sky?????
Anyone have any ideas???
mmmmm think it matters how many layers and how good the sewing is (and probably whether you use the dryer) ...
I haven't had to get rid of any of Jacks - but I have a fair few in rotation .. they are GOOD ones - and I rarely use the dryer ..
 does that kinda answer your question at ALL???

Good question.
I've got Hemparoos that are 16months old and are still kicking on.
'spose when they start to be the cause of the nappy to wick or leak you can try boiling them to bring them back to life. I really don't know, I've never had an insert die.. well apart from microfibre boosters but that's expected.

My hemparoo's are 14 months old and pretty thin :)
And any hemp french terry boosters/inserts with the terry side sewn in has got clumps of fluff stuck in the corners and is thin everywhere else..
I don't have a dryer but I like to wash in warm.
I don't use them much anymore!
i have some hemp pocket inserts that are about 2 1/2 - 3 years old, and they're about at the end of their life - getting threadbare, and a couple the fabric has worn through in a few places. so that's a pretty good lifespan i reckon!

How about Bamboo???
How about Bamboo???
not sure, as I haven't been using bamboo for long yet. So far evidence suggests that bamboo is a more fragile fabric - in some cases the terry isn't holding up as well as hoped, although it does seem to depend a bit on type of washing machine etc. So far my fleece is fine, but it's very difficult to predict how it will be in 18mths time, so I'm going to reserve judgement until I see for myself what it looks like at that point.
Hemp should last years. The more it is washed the better it gets. Hemp has been compared with cotton and the study showed the hemp had a lifespan lasting about 4 times longer than the cotton.
Of course, the better the hemp material the longer it will last.
Bamboo has quite a long lifespan compared to cotton, although I can't find any actual info on the length of time you could expect.

If you do happen to find any info sometime in the future I would love to hear about it.
Any bamboo I have is only about 1 1/2 years old so it is still quite young:yes:

personally its not the hemp that's wearing out - its even the overlocking thread around boosters and things before its the fabric itself.
hoopdedoo whats the discoloration like? is it orangey spots?

i have the same thing - i was looking at a my hemp inserts as i hung them up today and they have little orangy spots on them too!!! and i also discovered one of the inserts is going to die soon - one of the actuall hemp threads is un raveling :crying:, but i think that was just that batch of hemp as there were a few holes in it and another girl in t he coop emailed me about hers falling apart in the washing machine while trying to shrink it!
how ever - i dont like hemp any more lol, i brought 1/2 mtr of bamboo a few weeks ago (only got 4 inserts out of it - but that is better than nothing!) and apart from being soooooooo soft - they are also working better over night for my boys! and all i need is one insert (its longer than my hemp ones, so i can fold over the front and have "6 layers" in the front area, where as the hemp inserts i was using 1 hemp, 1 folded hemp and a microfibre (thats about 12 layers!!) )
but it would be nice to know what sort of a lifespan one can expect from the different fabrics!
My hemp BBH are 14 months old and getting pretty thin! My bamboo one is the same age, and has thinned, but not nearly as much as the hemp. The hemp is quite thin on some of the snap-ins.. I can't see them lasting another year. The overlocking is still perfect though.
