[/B]My 14 month old has tongue tie. We have been told to hold off on doing the tongue tie release until he is over 2 years due to the affect of the anaesthetic.
We wanted to do it when he was a few months old, but were unable to find a paed/specialist who wanted to do it due to the fact that he was breastfeeding well. Actually most of the medical people made us feel babaric in wanting to do this simple snip on him. I'm very disappointed now though because he could have got it done without a drama, but now he is older it is a bigger issue due to the fact that he will have to go under in an operation and now he is older and understands more.
Is there anyone out there who has a heart shaped tongue tie who has had it cut when they have been older.
Any advice would be great.

Hi Rosie

My DD1 and I both have tongue ties and while I had a bit of trouble breast feeding her at first, it has not affected her in any other way. Neither she nor I had it cut and neither of us have any speech problems because of it and so it really doesn't affect us at all.

I am wondering whether your son has a similarly mild form of tongue tie and so the operation would not have any signficiant benefit for him (compared with the risk of doing the operation). I think this may be why they advise you to wait, if it causes no problem with speech or feeding, doctors probably prefer to leave it alone.

There have been a few tongue tie threads on here and ppl's experience varied a bit. Here are a few of those threads, some posts were about quite serious tongue ties, so the info may be quite useful.
