View Full Version : RE: Attention bottle feeders - money saver
Hi everyone
Thought this may be helpful
If you have private health insurance you should be able to get a discount off formula and baby gear.
For example the formula I purchase is 20.95 but with the health insurance card I get 4 dollars off!
Then the savings can be used for more exciting things such as toys for bubs.

Hi
What health fund does this apply with?
Do you just save your receipt and send it away?

Oh really? As far as I know (from our private health insurance anyway) I don't think you can do that. Unless are you getting a discount by buying through a store that gives discounts to members of your fund?
I can't imagine any fund allowing this
Would be great if we can hey? :yelclap:
health partners offer 20% off at some chemists

Sorry, really can't help myself.. When are breastfeeders going to recieve some kind of incentive like this?? (ducks and runs..)

your milk is already free, and your baby is getting the 'breast is best' option - what more do you want??? bottle feeding wasn't a choice for us - it was a necessity and the financial strain of formula is just that, a strain, so some financial assistance is greatly appreciated (not that my health fund covers such things, but great for those that do!).

There's no attacking of bottle-feeders going on here... just commenting on how big business works! IMO, formula should actually cost ZERO to parents who are forced to use it. :)

Mumma bear, I honestly wasn't meaning to offend. I relise that many people cannot BF for whatever reason, but it just seemed odd to me that formula cannot be advertised in any way by law, but health funds will give discount on it. Most health funds will not cover the costs of a Lactation Consultant, but will subsidise ABM? Wouldn't they be better off giving financial help to women in learning to breastfeed before using ABM?

there goes the miscommunication thing again, lol. I knew you weren't attacking bottle feeders, my first line was tounge in cheeck - your bubba's got the best of everything, what else do you want <insert laugh here>. my second sentence was in response to the OP.

I am a bit peeved about........................I couldn't even claim a visit to the Lactation Consultant on my private health insurance.
Even so a rebate on formula couldn't get me to bottlefeed, no matter how savage my baby is getting :)

Hi

Yeah - just wondering which fund this is? I'm with HCF and I'm thinking of moving my cover over to NIB. My decision may be influenced by something like this though! I dont have a bub yet - but you know what its like when you are starting with a private health fund - your not covered for 12 months - so I'm best off knowing all this stuff BEFORE I get myself settled with a particular fund.
I too would also love to know!! I am with MBF and it seems all I do is pay them and get nothing back. I even had to fork out $500 for bills after the hospital stay while having bubs.
I also have an underactive thyroid causing my milk to dry up  and now have to fork out for daily meds and doctor bills to make sure I don't crash and fall into a coma. On top of that I have to pay $20 odd for formula every few days. ARGH!
It really isn't fair is it.
Totally goign away from the thread there too but why are tampons considered a "luxury" by the govt. therefore GST and jacked-up prices?!?!
Makes me more angry that the country is run by MEN!!!

The govt is screwed. I use cloth pads, so avoid paying for GST on tampons, but seriously... a luxury? COME ON!!!!
Polony why are you paying $20 every few days for formula?

Last I checked, Medibank Private didn't pay anything back for formula. I've never tried to buy it from a chemist or checked whether some chemists would cut the price based on my private insurance.
Medibank Private does pay back for Jenny Craig programs, but not for gym memberships. Go figure that one out!

Yep. Washable, reusable, natural hemp. Much better and I swear my flow is lighter for using the cloth. I'll try and find links if you are interested.

It may sound a bit gross, but what Nel is doing is SUCH a good idea. I read a couple of articles a few years ago and you'd be surprised what women are really sticking inside themselves and under themselves IYKWIM!! So many chemicals. If you think about it, they us bleach to whiten sanitary products as cotton's natural colour is slightly brown and they think we'll be turned off. So, we're all sticking bleach in us and that's just ONE chemical.
I only use cottons brand now and even then they still use bleach. :(
Love,
Nan. xx
