Hi
JUst wondering if someone can help.

Today i did a pregnancy test and the positive line appeared but it was very very faint, i can only just see it.

Do you think that this means that i am pregnant. I know i should test in a couple more days but i just wanna know.

This will be baby number 2 and with my daughter the line was also faint but not as faint as this one.

Thanks,

i did my first test when my period was a few days late & nothing showed on the test so i just left it but when i went to throw it away the next morning there was a really faint line there - i read the instructions & it said that a faint line can occur with drying - so left it another week & the two lines appeared very very quickly - so i think give it a few more days then try again :)

Hi there Jessica,

Depending on the time of day, and when you were due for your period can greatly affect the line. Supposedly only after your period is due is when your HCG levels really kick in - and this is what determines your result. Also it is better if you test first thing in the morning, as during the day depending on how much water etc you drink - this can dilute your wee.

But if it is a true positive, then the line will get darker as it dries. I would try again in a few days and see what the result is then, hopefully it is a result your after.

Good luck.
Natalie. :)

Hi Jessica.
I had the same sort of thing happen to me. i did my first test and nothing showed up so i left it and went back a few hours later and there was a very faint line. As it says on the test this isnt suppoed to mean anything because the time limit has passed. So i left it another few days and did another one and the same thing happened but the line was slightly brigther. I figured seeing as this had never happened any other time i had taken a test that i must mean something.

So i waited another week and did a third test which showed up positive very quickly. I think that it could be a good chance that you are pregnant especially if this has never happened on any other tests you have done.

I did two tests which came up with very, very faint lines - barely noticable - and the result is a 6 month old baby rolling around the floor as I type - so I would say that the indications are pretty good for you being pregnant.

Just wait a few days and test again, but make sure you use your first urine for the day.
I hope that you get the result that you want.
Keep us posted. :)

I also got really faint lines on my test. But other symptoms help too, are your breasts larger or sorer, I felt really warm, headaches, nausea, had to go to the loo every 3 seconds, I had acne too.
My husband didn't even think the line was visible but I knew. Now I am 23 weeks expecting my first!

I hopes this helps! It is an overwhelming time.

Sorry to hear that.
It will happen. I know what you are going through as we are trying for our 3rd. It is very disappointing when you get hit by your periods or you do a test and it comes up negative.
I hope it happens for you soon.
Have your periods hit you yet because sometimes they can come up with a false negative. Not to get your hopes up or anything but it does happen.

Hi

I havnt had my period since Feb as i had implanon but its been out 4 weeks now.
Doctor said that i had a good chance of getting pregnant before my period comes but will probably be eaiser if i wait till i get my period anyway.

My first pregnancy I tested just before being due my period and it came negative, I then tested the day of the period and the line came up as the wee hit it. Now my current pregnancy I was late and I did several tests several came negative until sometime after the "time" to look, thats when dh looked again and came and said your pregnant. So down the shop and another day later I tested again and it didn't show so I was very upset and went to the lounge 10 mins later hubby went to the loo and asked why I wasn't preggers when it had two lines, very very faint lines but there was two. It turned out I ovulated late in the cycle! Well I'm now 28wks and so glad hubby went and checked. My mother recently had the same ordeal and she was pregnant. Go to docs and ask for a blood test. ;) Oh and keep smiling

Hi I worked in Medical Surgerys since 1991 and the only way a female can have a faint line on a preg test is if you are indeed pregnant. The hcg levels although low at first increase rapidly so if you would feel better have a blood test or wait just a day or to for a darker line result. I was told that you can have a false negative but not a false positive result.

Hi I have ben using the tests that i purchaced on line from lullaby conceptions yesterday and thismorning I used one of the cassetts (the plastic square ones) and they didnt come up positive strait away but after leaving then for 10 min they come up with a quite dark but really thin line across them. Neither one of the tests have come up with a line strait away im due to get my period tomorrow so maybe its still to early to test has anyone else used these test and had this happen to them. And also how reliable are tests ordered on line should i also buy one from the chemist or supermarket just to be sure.

Any advise would be great

Hi Krystal I am almost sure that was the brand i used for my first pregnancy and that happened to me it did not come up with the plus sign for over 5 mins and when it did it was very faint but the control line was dark if you want to be sure get a blood test but in saying that i have been told by more than one O&G that you can have a fake negative but not a fake positive because you body only makes the hcg hormone when your pregnant and because it is early thats a common reason for the faint line, as the hcg hormone nearly doubles each day only waiting a few more days would give you a much darker line. I hope this helps good luck.

Hi ladies,
Just wanted to check about the fake negative/positive. I know from experience it is possible to have a fake negative. I was also told you can't have a fake positive, but all of the tests I have ever taken say that a faint positive line may be seen if the test is read after the testing time & it doesn't mean you are pregnant. This happened to me a few years ago. I took the test & after waiting the required time it was negative. I left it on the loo & went back about 10-15mins later and there was a faint positive line. It turned out I wasn't pregnant. As I said, all the tests say that a faint second line can be seen if you leave the test for a long time. From memory is has something to do with when the test drys.(Don't quote me on that)
Anyway just wanted to let you know. If anyone could clear up this matter it would be great as there seems to be abit of conflicting evidence.
Either way I hope your faint line means you are pregnant.
Best of luck

Trish

hi trish
That could be right you know because i have seen in the preg test box not accurate result if left over a certain time but i'm not sure if time would very per brand (5 mins for some or 20 for others etc) when i did preg test for my 8 month old i did it a day before my period and the line didn't come up for ages and was faint but a blood test confirmed it,she was an AIH baby so i was pretty antsy in wanting to know.

Hi, I took 2 home pregnancy tests today. Equate brand. Within 60 seconds it said positive...BUT on both tests the line going across was very light.... Am I pregnant? I have not started my period....I have been feeling really sick to my stomach...and my nipples are sore..but breasts arent yet....... I was reading on the internet about Equate brand and alot of ppl said that equate gives false results sometimes......Is there still a chance I may be pregnant?

welcome joeys sweetie!
It's very possible that you are pregnant!
60 seconds is definately within most brands time frame to get a clear and accurate result. Most brands also have their percentage of false results - but of these the majority are false negatives.
I'd still give it a few days then do another test to confirm. If you don't get your period, I'd be going to the GP to get a blood test to confirm.
Good luck!

Hi Joeys sweetie, it does sound like you are pg. :D Its very uncommon to get a false positive from HPT's. If you are uncertain test again to see what it says or go to the doctors for a blood test. Even if the line is faint its still positive! :D The fact that it came up that fast too is a good sign. Let us know how you go with testing, im sure that you're pg. Good luck! ;)

Another option is to try the clearblue digital pg test. I bought one of those when I wasnt sure if I was seeing a feint line or a evap line .. within 60 secs it came up with the word "pregnant" on the screen - excellent took the guess work out of it all!!, I think they cost me about $25 for 2 tests though so not very cheap

OMG OMG OMG..... I just did a test (stupid I know at the end of the day) and there is a reeeeeally faint line there. I've looked at it a hundred times in the last 1/2 hour, and I'm sure I can see it. Hubby thinks he can too.

Thanks for the suggestion littlepickle, I might try that brand in a couple of days and see if I get a clearer response.

I'm so excited I can't sleep now.

I was told a positive is positive, no matter how faint etc. If they were different brands maybe the second one couldnt pick it up as it might be too soon for that brand?

Either way a blood test will let you know for sure.

I have my fingers crossed for BFP for you!!

Hi, im new to these forums but found them so helpful when our baby had no heartbeat at 9 weeks in May :( and now when i had confusing faint lines on my pregnancy test. i had pregnancy tests that i purchased from ebay (these have been reliable in the past) and the 1st i did showed a very very faint positive line but i thought maybe i tested too early so i waited a few days and tested again and got the same faint line. I had one more test left and figured a week later to test again and maybe it would give more accurate result as i was a little confused with the result and seeing as we lost our last baby i really didnt want to get excited only to be dissapointed. After doing the 3rd test i decided that there MUST be something wrong with the tests i had as this has never happened to me, more so if it was negative then it would flat out be negative but i kept getting this very very faint line! Today when i was shopping a decided to try a different brand of test and sure enough in the middle of the afternoon i got those 2 very dark almost instant lines telling me POSITIVE. Doesnt hurt to try a different brand
:) for whatever reason the tests i tried earlier were not showing clear results!

hi,
can anyone tell me if im pregnant or not?
i took a test a few days ago and nothing showed up but the next morning only a vertical line showed up but very dark. so then next day i went and got another test and a few minutes later a very faint, where you can hardly see it unless you put it by the light, negitive line showed up...? does that mean im not or is it to soon to tell?

Hi there.

I just want to ask for some advise...
I was diagnosed with PCOS (polly cystic overran syndrome) after the birth of my son 8 years ago... The last couple of days my husband got worried because I am constantly warm (sweating in Europe when its winter outside) My tummy feels strangely swollen and uncomfortable. The other night I was throwing up for no reason...... Soooooo this morning I did a home pregnancy test and at first it was negative, and I discarded it. Then later I realized I did not wait the full 5 min for the test to develop properly. I went back to get it and there was a very very very faint line in the positive window.... It is extremely faint and I wonder if its not my imagination... Or if it is just the 'shadow' line that happens after you read it after the set time has elapsed....
I don't want to get my hopes up... any advice?:fingerscrossed:

I second the Clear Blue suggestion! It takes the guess work out but you really need AF to be due already...

I got a clear BFP using first response three days before AF was due and the Internet cheapies I got didn't show for a few days later... I would def recommend the more expensive tests now, just for peace of mind.

Hubby and i have been trying for a year now. we have decied to stop trying and do more reno's etc. But the last 4 days i have been feeling a lil funny. i took a test yesterday morning (first response brand) and it came back one dark pink line and one faint but visable pink line after about 1min. I took another one about lunch time same thing. told my hubby he said try again tomorrow morning. I took one this morning and same thing one dark pink and one faint line. i have been feeling a lil sick and boobs are really sore i am a lil tired but that's not unusal. I'm not sure if thats in my head coz i want to be or its the start and i dont want to get too excited after a year of trying. My peroid isnt due for about 2-3 days so i would only be 2 or 3 weeks pregnate if the tests are true. Is it too early to tell should i wait to see if my peroid comes? Has something similer happen to anyone?i need advice.

Hoping its a sticky one for you!

I agree if its faint it is still positive. Some tests i have heard can give false negatives but i have never left a negative test for an hour and come back and had it turn positive on drying or ever. When ever i have tested and saw a faint line no matter how long after a few days later a retest is darker and i was in fact pregnant.

Just thought if clarify for people. You can't get a false positive on a test. It tests for the hormone hcg which is what your body secretes when you are pregnant.
If you have undergone art and used hcg injections, then this is the exception.
Different brands will test different strengths of the hormone hcg. First response is one of the most sensitive. First morning urine is your strongest urine, so you will be more likely to get a positive early on with this time. It is possible to get positive and negative results with differing brands, testing at the same time, so it would be best to stick with one brand until you are sure.
If you get a positive early on, and it is faint, test again in a couple of days. It can take a while for the hcg hormone to build up enough to be getting a stronger line on your test, or even for you to get a positive test at all.

Good luck all the ladies who have had positives. Hoping they are all sticky and you have a lovely surprise in 8.5 months.
