Hi all

I have invested in some lovely cloth nappies and am planning on primarily using some towelling or flannel sprayed / soaked in something for a baby wet wipe. I am hoping someone has some idea of what might be nice to use on baby bottoms that I could make up and use at home.

I remember seeing a thread somewhere (?) where this was briefly discussed but perhaps there are some other suggestions out there? i have heard that using witch-hazel can be quite good, but I don't have much of an idea and I don't really want to be purchasing something all the time

Surely there is a nice smelling, natural, cost effective and most of all workable solution for pooey baby bottoms!!!

Cheers

Oooh baby due any day now......am having some mild period pain - this could be the start of something!!!! or maybe I've just been sitting in front of the computer for too long!:D

I just read aardvarks post re camomile (sp?) tea on a face cloth. Sounds good.

Any other suggestions.......:fingerscrossed:

I used to cut up my own cloths, just chux superwipes soaked in water. They worked fine but I eventually got sick of cutting them up. I don't like using scents on my baby, their skin smells so lovely just on their own. I don't think baby's poo smells that bad at all...... until they start solids  Maybe try with water first and see how you go?

I use demineralised water! It won't go mouldy as quickly.

To that I add for every say 500ml one chamomille tea bag (helps with nappy rash if needed) and a small amount of honey (if I remember).

I found this to be a very yummy smelling solution and very soothing on their bottom!

I use cotton pads and olive oil...........works an absolute treat!! Makes it so, so easy to clean up - especially those lovely newborn poos!! I also found it really cost effective. And it keeps bubs bottom yummy, soft and protected!!

I use facewashers with either cammomile tea or a little bit of his baby bath.
Otherwise if i havent gotten myself organised water does the trick :)

A friend of mine uses cut up chux wipes and in a 500ml water bottle - the one's with the squirty lids, like some sports drinks (hope that makes sense) she fills it with water and a squirt of the organic baby wash (it has glycerine, essentials oils etc) that she uses for DS bath. It smells great.

I use paper towel (VIVA is a good brand, you need a good brand) folded in half and then soaked in water and olive oil, I usually use about 1 tablespoon olive oil to 1 cup of water, but can adjust it to how you like. I have never used commercially bought wipes and my dd who is 2 never really suffered nappy rash. Oh and have saved so much by making them myself.

i just wet a face washer, flannel or cut up old terry with WATER, just plain old tap water. i used to have a container with cammomile in it but DS would just crack it open and tip it out.

i just wet before using.

I bought heaps of cheap baby face washers from best and less, and I just run them under warm water before I use them, they sit in a big basket by the bathroom sink, and it's really no hassle. I found it more effort to make up the cammy and lavender solution I used to use, and nicer to use a warm cloth.

Thankyou all for the advice - it looks like maybe a mix of water, oil, maybe lavender and some camomile is the go (I know water and oil don't really mix but you know where I am coming from). Bought some cheapy facewashers from K-mart and my super mum has just edged some left over fabrics for wipes too so have the means with which to wipe just need the wiping solution!!

I'm a massage therapist anyway, so I'm pretty sure I've got some oil around the place:rolleyes: ........

For all those who are using olive oil, you might like to consider trying a 'lighter oil' (although you probably already have...) for the same reason I don't massage with olive oil (it can be a bit thick on the skin - you feel a bit like a chip on its way to the deep fry :D ) Something like almond oil is a lot thinner and absorbs more easily but still has therapeutic properties - if you really want to splash out things like jojoba are 'thinner' again and I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that jojoba has the most similar properties to natural skin oils (aside from natural skin oils i guess)

Anyway thanks again.....
Now where's that squirty bottle......

and what's with that new vomiting smilie?!

Can I add that I prefer Apricot Kernal Oil on little bubs only for the reason that perhaps bub may have a nut allergy and I wouldn't want them to have a reaction to it!
