Follie/Egg size

Today at cd 15 I had my internal Ultra sound. I usually O on cd 17.

On my right size, my follie was 2.6cm (26mm) and the gyno said that one was too big as they should be around 20mm.

He then looked at the left side and there was a nice 1.8cm one (18mm). He said that that one should realease an egg in a couple of days (when I usually O).

What happens to that really big one? Does it just die off?

If I get a positive LH surge tomorrow (I usualy do cd16), does that mean that it is sending the message to the left side to release the egg?

Hmmm Singa, i have no idea. Perhaps you will have to become the follicle expert and share all your knowledge with us.

Maybe the assisted reproductive / long term TTC girls might know. They are always talking about follies in their thread.

I would have thought the larger follicle was fine because:

In a natural (unstimulated cycle) or Clomiphene Citrate cycle, mature follicle size is between 18 - 30 mm. If triggered, these cycles are typically triggered when follicle size is between 17-26mm (dependent of the practice and IVF lab).

I know my follie size has been 18-20 mm just before O and they grow 1-2mm a day. Usually our bodies only release one egg but with two follies your size, I would have said you could release two. My FS won't do a IUI if there are three follicles because of this. I would ask your doc. why he has said it was two big.

Thank you so much for that. I guess he said it might be too big because I wasnt due to O for another 2 days and that could mean a bigger follie (if it continues to grow)...I think!? He also said it is possible for my body to release both.
I am due to have a LH surge today and O tomorrow but we did bd this morning just in case and will again late tonight...Don't want to miss it!!!
