I've found another recipe for you gals to try...the KFC coating...
It does say to add 3 Tablespoons of MSG to the recipe...don't know about that!

Genuine KFC secret recipe
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp thyme
1/2 tsp basil
1/2 tsp oregano
1 tbsp celery salt
1 tbsp black pepper
1 tbsp dry mustard
4 tbsp paprika
2 tsp garlic salt
1 tsp ground ginger
3 tbsp MSG (Accent)

Mix all ingredients well in a large bowl.

Dip chicken pieces in beaten eggs
Then turn them over in regular bread crumbs (commercial)
Finally plunge them in the flour-spices mixture (above)

Heat oven to 350 degrees
Place chicken in a tray and cover with foil (shiny side out)
Cook 40 minutes.
Remove the foil then cook for another 40 minutes
Baste lightly with oil 5 minutes before the end
Let stand 5 minutes and serve.

That sounds good - it even has 11 "secret" herbs and spices (if MSG is counted as a spice).

Tell me - do you reckon it works without MSG????

Also - surely it has to be deep fried - wouldn't be KFriedC otherwise would it?

Okay - we'll probably try this one on the weekend, it's DH's birthday on Sunday and I've been looking for a good recipe for a special dinner - LOL.

Last request - can you get the Hot and Spicy recipe as well - that's my fav!:D

MSG is used as a 'flavour enhancer'...commonly added to commercially produced food products (eg. frozen dinners, instant soups, snackfoods) to make them taste more 'savoury'.
As for the 'fried'...didn't you know Pegasus...the fried part of KFC was taken out to trick us into thinking it's healthier now!!!
See what I can do re/hot & spicy!!!

Okay - I've just shared my delight with my husband that we can try not only the KFC original recipe (with 11 secret herbs and spices - sorry - I'll only be using 10 as I'm pretty sure my bub in the incubator can't eat MSG) but the crispy strips as well. He was obviously very impressed  and asked me what I could do about the chocolate sundae recipe!!!

Okay - I seriously am going to shoot him for that one - he knows I only eat caramel sundaes (and crunchie McFlurries), but the incubating one definitely can't have soft serve icecream at the moment.

PS I get the idea about the initials being to make us feel as though we're eating healthier, but I'm still pretty sure hubby will make me get out the deep fryer for this one - does make it more authentic. Even though they changed the name, pretty sure they didn't change the cooking method!:detective:

Mind you, last comment from hubby as he went off to bed was "So are you going on The Biggest Loser" after doing this?...I was going to bed too, but maybe I should stay up a bit more? Nah - think he's just jealous 'cos they don't post such mindblowing stuff on his fishing forums:D

Oh and Mamaduke - yeah...we're all shedding tears for you too (or we will be on the weekend when we try out your recipes!!

Well here it is!
KFC Gravy
1 1/2 tablespoons shortening, melted
3 tablespoons of Original Breading Flour
2 tablespoons all purpose flour
1 can Campbell’s Condensed Chicken Stock
1 can water

First we are going to make a roux with the melted shortening and 1 1/2 tablespoon of breading flour. Cook this over low heat for 10 to 15 minutes or until the roux browns in color to resemble a nice milk chocolate color. Once the mixture turns brown remove it from the heat and add the remaining flour and slowly add the liquid(s) to incorporate it so no lumps. Bring the mixture to a boil and boil for 2 minutes reduce the heat and allow the mixture to thicken which would take about 3 to 5 minutes.
*That is just the flour that you use to bread the chicken with.

KFC Mashed Potatoes
2 1/2 cups Idaho Potato Flakes
1 stick Margarine
2 tablespoons Butter
2 1/2 cups Hot Water
3/4 cup Milk
1 teaspoon salt

Heat water add butter and margarine till melted. Add the salt and cook for 2 minutes. Add the flakes and mix till it looks like regular potatoes. Add milk to proper consistency. Serve with gravy. Serves 6

Kentucky Fried Chicken Seasoning Mix Recipe
Just mix these commonly-found spices together! Great when used for skinless chicken fingers too.
2 tablespoons salt
2 cups flour
2 tablespoons pepper
4 tablespoons paprika
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1 tablespoon mustard, ground
1 tablespoon French thyme, ground
1 tablespoon sweet basil
1 teaspoon oregano, ground
1 tablespoon jamaica ginger, ground

The bacon...that's a toughy - but I actually ate bacon when I was pregnant.

Money tree...another tough one...
