View Full Version : Help - cramps after feeding
Hi there, my bub is 1 week old today - but it feels like a year. I am breastfeeding and desperately want to keep on breastfeeding. There is nothing wrong with my milk supply or latching on, but the problem is cramping/colic? Bub gets lots of cramps and tummy rumbling after feeds - which means screaming for hours after each feed. I am burping him, but nothing seems to help. Does somebody out there have any advice on how to help prevent or treat this. Maybe its someting in my diet, although i am very carefull of what I'm eating. Im just desperate, please send some helpfull hints if possible.
Thanx!
Hi Lizzy
congratulations on your new bubba!
First I'd call the ABA helpline, they are lovely,
I have a friend whose baby does the same thing and she used to find he was much happier feeding lying down.
I also had a colicky baby and when she was that upset I'd carry her on her tummy (laid along my arm so she was nice and supported) and that always worked as long as my arm could stand it.
:hugs: and I hope it settles down soon for you.

YEp call the ABA for sure! Food isnt really an issue with my bub but things like chocolate, onions garlic coffee etc can upset some bubs.
A good way to help bubs to is rest them in your arm face down, walk around a little seems the motion helps quiet abit, if you can picture bubs stomach on your forearm and their head resting on its side in the elbow part? Over your knees on their tummy helps too, a warm bath etc.
As bubs is only a week old its all new to him as well too i found the first 2 weeks with this bubs she had really husky deep old man style burps and was in alot of pain but when my milk come in she settled really well.
Chat to the ABA they are lifesavers :) Congrats on your new arrival too

i found the arm thing to be a lifesaver. also i used to feed laying down as much as i could because i have a really fast flow bubs kept gulping in too much air.
a warm bath helps to ease their wind pains too.
