Hello Cloth Nappy gurus,

I am hoping you can help with my question...

I have various hemp inserts as well as some microfibre inserts and I was wondering what order to place them in the nappy. I am thinking about just using them inside a snug cover (Bummis NB or XS Motherease) for when my baby is still small.

What are the properties of hemp as opposed to microfibre, ie. does hemp draw the moisture away from the baby or is microfibre better at this (and consequently should be placed as the first layer).

Me so confused:confused:

i usually put the microfibre on top as that draws the moisture awy from baby the most :)

Microfibre mustn't be placed directly against skin, as it dries it out.

TBH, for a newborn, I don't think you will need hemp and microfibre... they do little pee's (and poo's, lol) all day, and need to be changed so often that you don't need that level of absorbency.

Microfibre holds liquid like a sponge and quickly absorbs, and if heavily soiled, can cause compression leaks. This is why people often team it with hemp.

Hemp doesn't have the compression leak problem, however it is a little slow at taking up the liquid. When babies get older and hold their wee (thus weeing quickly and copiously when they do), microfibre or other quick to absorb fabrics are good to put in front of the hemp or bamboo.
