Just a question for mums or dads that have children 12 months apart.

My girls are 12 months and 2 weeks apart, and i always get asked are they twins... Can't people see that one is bigger than the other, i get annoyed as i get stopped all the time..

Does this happen to anyone else??

Do you think they look like twins?

Yep! happens all the time to me too Mel.

My boys are 14.5mths age gap and when they are sitting side by side in the stroller is when I get asked the most if they are twins (cause when they are standing, they clearly are not).

Some people just don't think before they speak :banghead:

Hi Mel

I don't have kids that far apart, but my sister and I are 2years and 10days apart. Lots of people thought we were twins, yet I don't really see it. I think a bit came down to the fact that we did everything together and when people bought us clothes as gifts they usually got us the same thing just different colours, so we ended up dressing alike.

Funny thing was people said my sister looked like my dad and I looked like my mum but they also said we looked identical (if you're interested I'll see if I can get a piccie emailed to you). There was a difference in size when we were growing up, but now we're both around 5 foot. We ended up getting upset at people always comparing us, and all the teachers who had my sister ended up getting me, so I was always getting called Natalie (her name). At the end of the day though - we loved being close in age and pretended we were twins sometimes when playing.;)

OOh I admit I have asked a lady before if her babies were twins turns out they were 12 months apart! I felt really bad!:banghead: but being a twin myself my sister when growing up was always a good foot taller than me and a I was a short little skinny twig, so I think that is why I got in confused with others!

My bubs will be 15 months apart and im already getting looks from other people cause im pg with a baby!! :( Unfortunately people are very judgemental and it hurts sometimes. I think that the people who do make comments or look are just jealous that they didnt do the same.

My 2 are 2 1/2 years apart and we were out shopping one day and I got asked by 2 different people if they were twins

DD1 was sitting in the trolley and DD2 was sitting in the seat on the trolley but still they are VERY different sizes.

My 2 boys are 12 months, 10 days apart, and i get asked if they're twins too. They're both big boys, but the oldest is MUCH bigger than the youngest, so i really don't understand it!

DS1 will be 2 years, 2 months when the third is born.....i wonder if i'll get asked if they're triplets?

I have 2 lots of 11 month apart gaps, and got the twin thing alot with the first 2, even though they weren't close size wise until he was 2 and a bit and she about 15 months or so. The second gap of 11 months is between DD no. 2 and DS no. 2 (3rd and 4th children) and they never get asked because my DS is developmentally delayed and has metabolic issues, so therefore doesn't grow much and at 3 still wears a size one. Only problem with that being DD no.3 is 14 months and was my biggest baby at birth, so now I am getting asked again (3 times while shopping today) whether the two of them are twins, and people are pretty freaked when I tell them there is only 2 weeks less than 2 years between them...wonder how long it will be before people start asking how much older she is???

That is the same as mine... One dark hair and hazel eyes, and the other is blonde and blue eyes!

Hello
I just wondered how all the ladies which close aged babies cope??
I have a 15 month old and even the thought of having another completely freaks me out! I am thinking maybe when he goes full time to school we might start trying!! How do you do it? Do you have alot of help from friends/family etc?
Not being from Oz, but maybe if I had my family here I MIGHT THINK about it, but at the moment no way!!

It makes me feel like such a bad mum, but I dont know if I will ever want another baby, I really admire all the ladies who cope with 2 under 2 etc! WOW

Don't ever think you are a bad mum because you don't know... As you have read mine are only 12 months apart. But if i didn't choose this... both unplanned. But if i was to plan i would probably have about 2 to 3 years between them. But i wouldn't change it for the world now though.

Hi Clairereid,
I never planned for 2 in a year either, apparently I am just very fertile after giving birth:D
You just cope, that's all...my hubby went overseas for 5 months when my 2nd was 10 days, and eldest was 12 months, 1 day, but I survived. There were some pretty cruddy days, but loads of good ones too.
The hardest bit probably is when the older one still isn't walking, so takes a long time to get in and out of car and things like that. Hell, that still takes forever now, and all bar one are mobile:o
Now that I have 5, people ask how I manage with that many so close, but again, you just do what you have to do.
I personally wouldn't have it any other way, but then have no experience of another way either, so can't say whether I would prefer a bigger gap or not...:p

I get asked if my almost 10 year old and 8 year old are twins, they are very close in height (theres 20 months between them) and in weight too.

My twins (who are nearly 5) theres about 3cm difference in height, the smaller one weighs 3kg more too. Some people ask are they twins, or just close in age. (they are fraternal)

I hear you about the ages to get in and out the car! LOL even though mine can walk and buckle themselves up! LOL
