Hi, just wondering whether I could get some opinions on what to do with my DS. He is 10 months 7.22kg 67cm. He is right down the bottom of the growth chart and Im just a bit worried I suppose. (his sister is 1 kg heavier and 4 cm taller)
Im feeding him 3 breastfeeds a day and he eats like a horse with his solids. He will eat absolutely anything I put in front of him, and he has a very good diet of lots of fresh food, meat, fish and dairy pasta.
Ive only just cut back from 4 breastfeeds to 3 (The 10pm feed is the one Ive cut out). He still seems to be putting on weight, Im just wondering if I should breastfeed him more. He has only had a cold twice and is really healthy, he also took a few steps the other day, so he isnt behind in his milestones.
The CHN has asked me to come in monthly to keep an eye on him.
If anyone has any suggestions of anything else I can do I would appreciate it.

No suggestions just some:hugs: 's and thoughts going your way!

Maybe you can add a little more "fat" into his diet?

My friends have a little girl who has a heart complication- huge worded name i cant remember- but when i met them i thouth they had a newborn- she was 14mths at thet stage! And only weighed in at about 6kgs.... tiny tiny girl!

They saw a nutritionist for bubs (i didn't know they existed) and she suggested adding fat in the forms of cream in mashed vegies, cheese etc. So not terrible fat- and not lots of it but just extra bits to help out!

Their little one started school this year and you honestly can not tell hat she has any condition- she just took off after a while!

(hey i did have some suggestions- look at that!!)

Hi There!!

I don't have the best advice but...

If you are really worried, take him to your dr see what he says and ask for a referral to a peadeatrician.

Trust your instincts, you know your bubba best!!!

Good luck, keep us posted.

Thanks for the replys.
We had his urine tested and everything is fine there, maybe I will get a referrel to a peadiatrician, just to set my mind at ease if nothing else.
My DH and I are not big people, maybe he is just going to be little.

Have you wormed him? I'd try everything. I would get into the doctor though - if there is a problem (lets hope not) the earlier you find out the better for all

YEs, you would be able to see the worms:)

My DS has been the same weight for at least 6 months...he is soooo active! He weigs less than 10kg at 21 months but I know there is nothing wrong with him.

Personally i think too much emphasis is put on weight, everyone is different! Babies cant be expected togrow in line with a chart, that is crazy..... Follow your instincts and if you feel that everything is OK and he is developing normally, then dont worry! All this emphasis on weight can really scareparetns sometimes I think - usually without need!

Good luck, I am sure he is fine:hugs:

Thanks That has made me feel better. He is soo active, doesnt stop from the minute he is awake. I might get another opinion on him though, just to be sure.
I suppose as he is a twin as well Im always comparing him to his sister, If he was my only baby I might not notice as much.

my little boy is also 10 months old and weighs 7.6 kgs. He started off on the 10th percentile and has just dropped below it. He has 2 breastfeeds a day and also eats like a horse! I worried a lot about his weight when he was little but now go on the principle that he is happy, looks healthy, wees and poos regularly and isn't losing weight so I don't worry. I guess it helps that neither my hubby nor I were big as kids either.
I'd suggest you don't do anything like treating for worms without taking your little boy to the doctor but it sounds to me like he is fine - just small.
I guess the other thing to remember is that its the chn's job to check up on babies that fall at the ends of the spectrum so I wouldn't worry too much about that either.

if he is eating well (which it sounds like he is), developing normally (sound like he is) is a happy and lovely boy then dont stress, children dont know about scales or charts they grow how slow or fast they need to.

keep up the yummy booby juice:)

I know it is hard but also try not to compare the 2 kids in terms of size as girls and boys develop very differently. As a kid I was always the same height and weight as my brother who is 3yrs older and I was considered to be a small kid(only weight 30kgs at 13).

Thanks everyone.
Its so good to be able to come onto Bubhub and share ideas and stories, you are bound to come across someone who is in a similar situation to you and see their perspective on it all.

You don't need to see a doctor to worm a child just ask the chemist. There is normal worming tablets which are 3yrs and over I think or you buy the chocolate ones which can be used on under 2yrs. I wormed my son a few months ago and he is now 16 months. Even if you have no animals and can't see worms its always a good idea.

i also think too much emphasis can be put on weight sometimes, my first bub was a concern for my chn at about 10mths as her weight plateued but all other indications showed me she was fine and she has grown up and up ever since but is quite skinny (like her dad). i always found my MIL reassuring as she always says she is just like her kids were at that age, obviously genetics has something to do with it!

recently i took her to my gp as i was becoming concerned (she's 9yrs) she said that she is perfectly healthy but even though she is slightly underweight, and that it is just her normal body type.
she eats like a bird and i am always trying to 'feed her up!',

Thanks everyone.
My Mum said I was the same and so was my sister. She was forever taking my sister for tests and to dieticians only to find out nothing at all was wrong with her. By the time I came along (Im the 5th) she just knew I was just little.
So maybe it is in his genes.

Glad you're feeling better about it.
Like the others have said don't stress too much. They are all so different. My DS is 19 months and we went to get him some winter clothes and the size 1's just fell straight off his hips. So I guess he'll be in those 0's for a while to come.
I think as long as they are happy, healthy and eat a balanced diet, you've got nothing to worry about.
