at my 13 week scan today they found two fibroids - each about 7cms. Freaked me out a bit. Saw my ob this arvo and he said that they are common and often cause no drama. Sometimes they can get in the way of delivery and necessitate a ceaser, and this too can be trcky due to the amount of bleeding that can occur if the fibriod is accidentally cut...ooohhhh, i can't handle all this stress and worry. Anyone else been in this situation??

i also had fibroids discovered at my 6 week scan. ds was delivered by c/s as an induction failed to dilate me. while in c/s they were able to take fibroids and past scarring out . all i can say is for me they caused no pain or anything. i bleed during labour (before the emergency c/s) but apparently that is normal.
wish you well

they found I had a firbroid at me 12 week scan about 2.5cm diameter on the 20 week scan i asked if it had grown which it had but hardly much at all. I had a natural birth with no problems cause of it luckily

I was actually a caesar cause i was blocked in by them and couldnt move so it worried me when i found out i had one

thanks ladies. i went to the doc yesterday after spending two days in pain. wasn't sure if it was a UTI or constipation but i just knew it didn't feel right. didn't see my Ob but a GP around the corner (who was lovely) and he seems to think it is my fibroids causing pain. seems they are fighting for space, pushing on other organs etc...he also said they may outgrow their blood supply and die off whichwould be nice but very painful! man, don't we have enough to deal with in pregnancy without the added extras!! cheerio girls, talk soon.

At about 19 weeks in my first pregnancy i was admitted to hospital with exceptionally bad abdominal pains. Not like contractions, just the most severe pain I have ever experienced. It transpired that I had a 9cm x 9cm fibroid that was going through red degeneration. Its when a fibroid has a kind of fibroid heart attack and is dying. Sounds like it should be a good thing, but it is not. This happened to me twice in my first pregnancy. I spent much of the time in hospital on narcotic analgesia.

However, and this is a BIG however, this event is actually very rare. Many women go through their entire pregnancy with fibroids and have either no knowledge or no problem with them. Once my pregnancy was over my big fibroid shrunk to 5 cms in 18 months, and my gynae removed it in an op called a myomectomy. He left 2 small fibroids in place. I am pregnant again, and I am not really anxious about history repeating itself.

I was unlucky. You won't be. My event was so rare that I was on a BBC phone in program on pregnancy cos noone had ever heard about it.

There you go. Enjoy your pregnancy and don't sit down researching fibroids to the 'nth degree cos you will just scare yourself witless when its unnecessary.

Good luck to you all
