I dont have much choice as my last pregnany I had a premature birth so im not allowed to go to the birth centre or anything like that. I will be monitored very closely this time.

That's it.. Im under the care of my own midwife at the birthing unit. I have her mobile number and see her throughout my entire pregnancy - only will see an OB at the birthing unit if it's absolutely needed. She will be the sole care provider of this pregnancy as Im a low risk pregnancy.

I had that last time with DS. Shared care with my GP and hospital middie (whoever was on the shift at the time - so not personal etc, just clinical)
This time around, it will be good to build up a trusting relatioship with someone who is involved in my child's life :) She then see me for 6 weeks after the birth, coming to my house for checkups etc.

I am still deciding between private (hosp and ob) or Home Birth with Midwife.
Have my first ob appointment in Jan and also meeting with Midwife in Jan too.
Have seen a Dr once since falling pregnant. I go to my naturopath for antenatal care and plan to do this right up to the birth. (she will also be at the birth)

I am going with the divine Ob who delivered Scarlett and Jasper,....
We're going private (ob, hospital & midwife) through Selangor at Nambour.
I have been seeing my acupuncturist to help with my spotting and she will "needle" me through labour to help with the delivery. Luckily Selangor are very flexible and pro-complementary medicine.
My GP has been great support to date, but have seen my Ob now and will probably stay in his care mainly from here on in.

I am going to my gp and then going to through the hospy. last time i just went through the hospy and i didnt have the best experience, so i think i will want someone on my side who has seen me through the whole thing.

We are going public. We have private health insurance and everything but even with that, we would still be out of pocket nearly $2000+ and we would prefer to spend that on bub.

wow didnt realise it is that much that is a big amount yeh I can imagine the amount of things you can get for bub for that amount.

Private OB and private hospital. The out of pocket does get a bit expensive but extra money isn't a big issue for us. I have visited our local maternity hospital and it is a bit of a dingy old hole (like most public hospitals I guess). Also, at my mother's group I heard some pretty awful stories about it too so that made my decision easier.
I'm not a snob but I don't like the idea of my child being born there.
One of the ladies I know had her bub at a birthing centre and it sounded very good but I know myself that I just wouldn't be comfortable under that arrangement. I would like a more natural birth with less intervention and I know that a private hospital makes it less likely. Hopefully if I don't need an induction this time I will be able to do that.
It is a difficult decision to make.
Oh...the other thing I've heard about the local public hospital is that they give limited breastfeeding help because they are so busy. All the mother's I know who birthed through the public system gave up within a few days which is very sad and I can't help thinking the public hospital system could be partly to blame for it. I'm not sure what the statistics are though on private vs public for successful breastfeeding.

:iagree:
I have heard some absolute horror storys about the Gold Coast Hospital from friends, mothers groups and even some midwives who work there. Our choices were Gold Coast hospital (public) Pindara (private), John Flynn (private) or a home birth.
Pindara has a reputation for a very high rate of CS. And chances of getting your ob on the day of birth are low. (which sucks cause you have paid them a small fortune)
John Flynn is further down the coast, but i have heard nothing but beautiful things from those who have birthed there and from Dr's and naturopaths as well.
It is really really important to us that our baby be born in a positive, warm environment. When i go for the tour of John Flynn ill get a feel for how the hospital runs and the energy of the place. If i dont like what i feel i will definately be home birthing.

John Flynn has an awesome maternity unit Kira, I know a few people who have nothing but kind and wonderful words about them :)
I refused to have my baby at the Gold Coast maternity ward after I had DS there, the labour was great with my middie (One I wanted to punch out but she left not long after I got there thank god), but the maternity ward was horrendous and depressing, but Ive heard really great things about their new birthing unit, so Im so glad I was accepted into their unit. Otherwise it was Tweed Hospital or Murwillumbah.

We're going ob and hosp, I would love to say I would be relaxed enough to go to a birthing centre but as it is our first and because we have no family here I just want the security of a neo natal intensive care unit (I think ours has level 2) to feel a bit more secure, so it will be private and ob for us!
I hope that this birth goes well enough that the next time I will feel a little more at ease with the idea of a birthing centre because they just sound so much nicer. I will be asking my ob about how natural/comfortable we can make it in the hospital. I am hoping they'll dim the lights for the little bub before he/she comes out - mind you i am sure that is the least of the traumas for the little one when they enter the world for the first time!!

We will go back to where we had DD 3, through the midwife scheme at the local hospital.

I'm going thru public and have to discuss my choices with the midwife next month as to what kind of care I want ...
Shared Care .. I don't like the idea cause I moved around alot during my first pregnancy and notes went missing etc so nothing was kept on one file .. so i'd prefer to just be going to one place.
Team Midwifery .. Supposedly a team of 10 midwives do all your ante natal care, deliver your baby and look after you after the baby is born .. sounds all wonderful but a few friends have done this and not one of them has had any of the midwives that did their ante natal care deliver their babys or look after them.
Midwife Clinic .. Probably my favourite options but you can be waiting up to 2 or 3 hours just to get in for an appointment .. but i reckon I'll go this way.
There's also high risk clinic but I don't have any problems at the moment tho my first pregnancy was full of problems!

I'm seeing the same Ob and birthing at the same Private hospital that I've been to with my 3 children.
This time, I'm also hiring a Doula! :flowerz:

Im going private this time with Ob's only. I was always a public patient until the way i was treated with Oceana. This pg is considered high risk so i rather have proper care this time around.
