Hi everyone,

I'm a longtime reader and first time threader, so I am hoping that I can get some advice/help with storing breastmilk.

I am finding I am producing heaps more milk than what DS can handle and I plan to freeze excess breastmilk for emergency purposes.

I have seen/heard breastmilk freezer bags from Avent and other such companies, but they are quite expensive for a one-income family.

Has anyone used normal freezer bags from the shops to store milk and found them just as good as the fancy branded stuff? Or is it better to fork out the money for the Avent freezerbags?

Your advice/experiences would be greatly appreciated :)

I read somewhere that someone is using normal freezer bags. As for which is better,I'm not too sure.

I bought this containers from avent to store EBM. Can't remember how much they were, but they're good. I used it with ds, and when I stop b/fed him, I used the containers to store his solids. Now i used them again with dd.

I have the containers you talk about from Avent - they are $25/10 containers. I am totally in love with them too! Although I am trying to see if I am able to save some $$ here and there as I have forked out alot of $$ to supply DS with breastmilk (bought an electric pump and lots of bottles to keep this going - in addition to money spent on my 1 year old).

Thanks mum_inlove for your post. I too have heard of people who use normal freezer bags and just want to make sure before taking the dive.

I used to use the milk bags but now I'm being environmentally friendly and just bought extra bottles and pumped milk and put them straight into the freezer. Very convenient too!!
