View Full Version : Early AF after ET
Hi - I am hoping someone might be able to help me with this. I have had one successful IVF baby (now a beautiful 2 year old girl) and started again for a second in March this year. I really appreciate how lucky we are to have one child as we have not been nearly as successful second time around. You really wonder some days how much of it you can take.
My question though is that after each embryo transfer (one or two, fresh or frozen) my AF arrives almost to a day 7 days after the ET. And it's a full flow and not spotting. Anyone else experience this? My doctor doesn't think it's a big deal but it's incredibly frustrating because I don't know why I get an early period. Every other month I'm as regular as clock work - just not the month after ET.
Like so many IVF challenges there probably isn't an answer - I guess I'm very curious about whether this is common.
Thanks Sonja

Hi Sonja
I'm afraid I can't be of any help in relation to the early AF problem, but just wanted to let you know that I can really relate to you as we were also very lucky to have our first child - also a beautiful little girl, now 19 months old - relatively easily with IVF (conceived on first IVF/ICSI attempt) but are now finding it much more difficult TTC#2 - have been trying since June and have had 3 attempts all with BFN. I so hear what you say about wondering sometimes how much you can take.
take care :hugs:

Hi Sonja - are you having day 5 embies put back? If you are, then your af would only be 2 days early. That's if you have the standard cycle I guess. By my calculations O around day 14 + 5 days for embie (sometimes it's 6 days because of the thawing process) & your at day 19 or 20 of your cycle + 7 days until you get your af and your having a 26/27 day cycle. is that right or am I confused and way off?
I will be in your position soon. We have a gorgeous, perfect 6mth old DS and 3 embies on ice. Because of my age I'm gonna have to get a wriggle on and try early next year for a FET. We are elated to be parents and so, far less stressed about the FET - I don't think I have another stimulated cycle in me! So if the FET doesn't work ... my IVF journey will be over. (Can't say I'm sorry about that!!!)
Good luck to you ... hope I haven't confused you.
Hi Sonja, I have found AF arriving early when the cycle didn't work (3 out of 6 cycles, I am on 7th cycle) and have found it good in a way becuase it meant I could get onto the next cycle quickly.
Asha
Thanks for the replies.
Lucky2b Mum - they have all been day 3 embryos. I'm hopeless with numbers but have been told by the clinic that it is early for AF to arrive.
Asha - I know where you're coming from. We had a cycle early November, transfer on the 7th, AF on the 14th and then back in hospital for an egg pick up last Friday. (I am never doing back to back again - only did it because of Christmas but my word the EPU was painful.) I think if this doesn't result in a BFP will be definitely having a break over Christmas and the New Year.
