Hello, we are planning to start 'trying' for our first child in a couple of months time. As there are only girls in our immediate family we wish to try our luck with various techniques to conceive a boy. I have read allot on the varoius things to try to hopefully highten your chances (although we will be thrilled at a boy or a girl, as long as it is healthy however we are in for the challenge to give it a go anyway).

As I will need to track my ovulation I wanted an easy way to do this, i have heard about the Maybe Baby product whereas you can track your ovulation by way of a saliva test every day. This sounds great but i wondered if others have used this and find it accurate and easy to use?

I appologise, i am sure there are other mentions of this product on this forum however the search function does not work well when you have very common words to search on and i didnt have any luck.

Any information will be most appreciated!

Thanks!
Nicole

Hi Nicole, as you can see I have two boys (i'm blowing baby boy dust your way right now:thumbsup: )

I am TTC a girl this time around :fingerscrossed: Either is great I love my little guys:D

I use a maybe baby and it takes a while to get use to reading them (at least a couple of cycles) and because it shows you ferning from a few days before you ovulate it may be easy to jump the gun and BD to early and be in 'girl' territory. I think if you're trying for a boy then OPK's might be better because they only show a positve reading the day before and of ovulation (so i've read). This would give you a closer reading to the time of ovulation. Although full ferning is on the day of ovulation on maybe baby's. You just need a couple of months to get use to reading what your ovulation day looks like on the maybe baby.

If you want to chart you're fertility signs and get more info on how to pinpoint ovulation check out www.fertilityfriend.com it is great, they have a free programmme you can use.

good luck,

Denise

I tried using it for six months, and never saw any ferning to indicate I was fertile, even during the cycle during which DD#2 was conceived.

thanks for the replies so far.

2boyzmama, please excuse my ignorance (it is probably something really obvious!!) but what is 'OPK' that you mention and suggest would work better for me? You are correct, I need to be pretty spot on with knowing the day of my ovulation.

OPK = Ovulation Predictor Kit

They are a urine test not a saliva test!;)

I think it is good that you are not planning on really trying for another couple of months that way you will really have down pat being able to read the OPK or the Maybe Baby.

Have you checked out Fertility Friend?

www.fertilityfriend.com

I think you would find that really helpful!;)

I just did a bit of reading up on the OPKs and they sound good, i really need something accurate however as i work full time and go to the gym 4 times a week straight after work it will be difficult to do the test at the same time every day. The only times i know i will be able to do it at the same time every day is first thing in the morning (which is not recommended) and about 8pm at night... they suggest 2pm is the best time but it just cant be done... would an 8pm test really alter the result?

I fell pg twice using OPK's, and I never tested at the same time each day.

Best Wishes!
