It's my 8th wedding anniversary on wednesday:bee: and i have secretly organised for dh to have the day off from work. Ive also booked the kids into daycare and after school care so that we can have a day to ourselfs.:smiliedance:

I was thinking about maybe going to Southbank and having a walk around the gardens, and going to a restaraunt or cafe for lunch, but i'm just not sure.

Does anyone have any ideas on some nice restaraunts or places we could go?

Somewhere or something romantic would be great.

A little trip to Mt Cootha Summit Restaurant is always lovely. Amazing view, good food, a nice escape. I had a picnic up there on Saturday night with a friend. Very relaxing!

Alternatively, you could go to New Farm (Vue is good for breakfast) and then stroll down to New Farm Park, jump on the City Cat, go up the river all the way and one the return journey jump off at Southbank for lunch or a coffee/icecream. There are a run of restaurants along the edge of Southbank.

Enjoy yourselves!

If you are at Southbank, the River Canteen has lovely food and views, but is a bit pricey but worth it!!

Joseph Alexanders at Milton is also very nice for a romantic meal, and its not too far from Southbank by car or even citycat.

I'm fan of french cuisine so my choice would be Anise in New Farm or Montracet in Paddington or Restaurant Two in the city, near the botanic gardens.

Hope you enjoy your wedding anniversary!

How about taking a Citycat to New Farm Park late in the afternoon, having some dinner at Watt Fine Dining (very nice and great relaxed river view) and catching a show/performance at the Powerhouse?

The restaraunt at Mt Cootha sous lovely. Can you take a bus there? I live at Caboolture and was planning on catching the train up to Southbank.
Does anyone know what that cinema is called at Southbank?

I think it's a cineplex.

There are heaps of restaurants in and around Southbank, but I think the citycat is a great idea too. If you have time, it would be lovely to catch it to either Watt (at New Farm), or Brett's Wharf at Hamilton. Both those restaurants are lovely.

Personally I'm not keen on The Summit at Mt Coot-tha. The food is okay. It's just a bit old-school for me... I have a girlfriend who goes there a lot just to have dessert, though. She swears by their cheesecake or something...!

Oh I know that you're planning to go to Southbank, but I can't help to mention this rest. It's called Garuva, located in the fortitude valley. It's pretty hidden with no sign of the rest outside the door. They put thin sheet between every table so you have total privacy. You sit on the floor with cushion, the lights are dimmed so it's sooo romantic:bee:. They have several menu selections, too. Western food, asian, etc. And the coctail bar is great as well. Worth to check it out! I love taking my husband there for any occasion:yes:

I am often dining at southbank, there is a gorgeous italian restuarant about 5 mins walk from the cinemas call Cafe Del Ugo Southbank. It is a bit more pricey but it is devine and superb quality food. I love it very very much. They really spoil you there too great service.

Anyway what ever you decide, I hope you both have a wonderful and relaxing day together.

Thai Ayuthaya at Kedron... it's not particularly fancy, atmosphere-wise, but the food is to die for and service great. Bravo's in Fortitude Valley is good. Vino's on Eagle Street is great for a splurge and the view is fantastic. Or I love the Oasis Cafe at Redcliffe for a casual breaky or lunch.

Wow, i live in Brissy and have never heard of Garuva. I worked in the wine industry for 7 years too!

My favourite is Watt, and the Summit, or 2 Small Rooms.

I've been there too. There's no sign for the resturant on the street, you just have
to know where it is. It's got great atmosphere, though I did like their old place better, before they moved. I love the low tables, sitting on the floor is much nicer than it sounds and the low lighting is very flattering :D

Another Garuva fan here too.... one day when I am not breastfeeding I can't wait to go just for one of their cocktails :)

The Thai Orchid at Milton is pretty good, although it's being a while since I've being there. I know it's a bit away from South Bank, but you've still got the esplanade along the river near there, and much less people...

If you're after a recommendation at South Bank then I can say that Decks is nice,

it's in the middle strip of restaurants and it's the very last one there (right at the end of the beach area 'where it turns into a little stream' if you get my drift

we had a work dinner there and it was really nice, mains were $25 each tops (so of course it depends on what you want to spend), alternatively you could just buy something and sit on the riverbank and eat it, then finish it off with an ice cream
