Saw something about this in the paper today. Fair enough we are moving away from the monarchy more, though we aren't a republic yet and I love a long weekend!!!;)

But seriously, a kids day?? I see what they are getting at 'cos kids are the future'... but I think there is a tendancy for kids to be over indulged in many ways these days anyway.

I remember when I was a kid asking my mum why there was a mothers and fathers day and where was kids day and she said 'every day is kids day' and you know, once you grow up and find out what life is all about, I think she was kinda right!!

Did we have the same mother? Mine said exactly the same thing. Now that I have my own child, I see what she meant too (damn, I hate it when she is right :hissy:).

Nope, I don't agree with a Kid's Day and can't wait until we have a Republic and we can have the equivalent of the Queen's Birthday long weekend but to celebrate our being a republic instead!

I'm pretty sure there is already a kids day too! Don't know when it is or anything about it though as we don't celebrate it.

Oh and girls my mum also said the same thing to me when I was a kid

I'm pretty sure they have a children's day in Japan and it is supposed to be lovely. That said, isn't every day 'kids' day'? It sure seems to be around here!

Cracking up. Just read the previous posts a bit more closely. I can't believe I'm saying the same thing as everyone else's mum!

:devil6: I was told that Christmas is kid's day and that is why mums and dads need a special one

kid's day is everyday and if there has to be one, why should it be a public holiday? Mothers and Fathers day aren't public holidays.

Kids get enough as it is these days, without having to warrant a day especially for them.

The only thing the Queens Birthday holiday means to me is a day off (or day of for DP, as I don't work). Kids day would mean the same... and if there was no day off, I wouldn't give 2 stuffs.

seems silly to me...I mean if thats the case why not replace Christmas with kids day...most people dont celebrate real meaning anymore (most primary schoold wont even do the nativity or sing carols it seems these days!)...if people dont want to celebrate Queens Birthday or Australia Day or any heritage public holiday for the meaning thats up to them I dont think any day should really be scrapped...Childrens Week btw is in October...our local council does a big party for 0-5's then and lots of things go in Perth to celebrate it...that to me is great...every day is childrens day though I think in all honesty as everyone else has posted...

I for one would like to see it exchanged for something else... Her birthday is in April not June so I have never really understood why we have a holiday in June anyhow??? Isnt it really Guy Falkes day or summin?

But I dunno about the kids day thing. Mothers and Fathers day arent public holidays.....

Her state birthday is in June. Her personal one is in April. Guy Fawkes is Nov 5th...

It was a stab in the dark  Maybe because in the dark ages we use to call it bonfire night and have fireworks

I honestly dont see what difference the name of the day makes, it's a long weekend and that's all that counts

But is this a conspiracy?

Was this "Think Tank" put together by the Lib.'s?:detective:

If Mr Howard had of got back in, would he have used this to take more off us?????

The plot thickens.......
