Ebony does it pretty much every time I feed now, and because of it, I am really scared each time she comes to feed, I just can't relax.
As much as I really don't want to wean just yet, I think it's time. I can't handle another bitten nipple and she seems to be not wanting my breastfeeds anymore except at night time. She happily guzzles down a bottle of formula :(
My son goes in and out of phases of biting my nipple but it always passes relatively quick. Biting doesn't necessarily mean she doesn't want the breastmilk anymore. It sounds pretty normal to me.
I usually just take my son off when he bites hard (I put my finger in his mouth to unlatch him) and he usually gets the hint pretty quick.
I wouldn't worry about formula unless it's something you feel really strongly about.

My DD went through a phase of this. It only lasted for about a week.
Hurt like hell, but now it is a distant memory...
With bottles of formula, it is hard not to 'guzzle' them. Turn them upside down and the flow is usually fairly fast and constant.
No waiting for let-down.
DD went through a phase of impatience too.. She just couldnt get the milk out fast enough.
If I were you:
I would ditch the bottle completely. Wear bright chunky beads for feed times so that she has got something to look at and will stay on longer.
Have your finger right next to the corner of her mouth, so as when she gets ready to bite, stick it in and she wont be able to bite your nipple.
Put on Bonjela before feeds, and offer a teething ring afterwards.
That is just me though.
I really hope that helps.

Thanks for the support guys, I was hoping it was a phase but she keeps doing it. I also use teething gel and she plays with my necklace or hair when we feed, I just don't know what to do. We can't ditch the bottle completely because I work and she needs a feed during my shift.:detective:

Both my girls went through biting stages but they got through it pretty quickly. Every time they bit me, I took them off the boob and didn't give it back for a few minutes hoping they would understand that it hurt me. I dunno it that worked or they just got over it.
Good luck! I'm sure you'll get through it :hugs:

I look at biting in the same way as drinking water through a straw. If you're thirsty, you drink. If you're not really thirsty but the straw is still in your mouth, you play with it, or nibble on it, or whatever.
If she's biting, take her off and do something else with her for a little while, because the logic is "biting=not hungry". When she is hungry, she'll feed without biting.
It is just a phase - you're underestimating how long it's going to go for, that's all :hugs: It will pass, it will feel like a long time now but it will pass.

That is a really good way of putting it.
Never thought of that!
