"The Birthright Quilt is a community-based initiative to create awareness about the high Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander infant and maternal mortality and to raise funds to support self-determination for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities to reclaim their local birthing services."
I think this is a worthy cause! Visit www.birthrightquilt.org (http://www.birthrightquilt.org) for more details.

Thanks for posting this.
Those stats are truly appalling. I feel very ashamed.

for some reason the page cannot be displayed but i saw a documentary a while back and was absolutely appalled at the lack of support and services available to rural indigenous pregnant women and their babies. my mum also works as a nurse up near karrartha and has plenty of stories to tell about how women have to drive or find their way hundreds of ks from home to get antenatal services by people they are not comfortable with etc so many don't get adequate antenatal care.
something needs to be done.
