Well I've always had the dream of having at least one chilly white snowy christmas in my life time.... and I've started thinking about putting it into action.... not sure whether to do it next yr (P will be 2.5, or the following year 09).....

So my questions to you all, especially those who have spent christmas abroad, are.....

Do you think Canada or somewhere in the United Kingdom, would be the best option????

I plan on making it a 3 week holiday, and hiring a car and travelling around doing all the good touristy stuff.... and yes I know its going to cost me a small fortune, but you only live once.... and hence why I'm planning ahead....

Any tips would be much much appreciated!!

I have had a white Christmas before and this year will be our first with our 14 month old son. They are fantastic, building snowmen and having the best excuse (ie the cold) to sit by the fire with the family and do absolutely nothing!

Hi, all I would say about the UK is you may not get a white Christmas there, you would be more assured of one in say Switzerland or Austria I would think.

I haven't been to Canada so couldn't comment (but it looks beautiful in pictures!). I have been to Germany, Switzerland, Austria in winter and they are beautiful. The area around Interlaken (Grindelwald) is spectacular, you can take a train right up into the mountains and it is spectacular (google Jungfrau region). Of course Germany - esp south eg Munich - and Austria - esp Salzburg - have the Christmas markets which are lovely.

May be worth researching the whole driving in snow thing too...can be a bit scary at times if on small roads but all the big roads are treated and fine.

Happy Planning!!

Have you considered Scandanavia TWG?

Norway, Sweden (more northish or away from the coast) and Finland would all be awesome. I loved Denmark but an actual white xmas (where snow falls on xmas day) is quite rare there as the country is surrounded by water so not so cold.

The christmas spirit and traditions there are just amazing.

I have to second the opinion on driving though - most Danish people pray for no snow at christmas cos it makes driving to the rellies too difficult.

This has got me all excited! Im off to Canada tomorrow for 4 weeks :raspberry:. DH, 10 month old DD & I are going to visit my mum in Alberta. I spoke to my mum today and she said there has been heavy snow falls and it is soooo cold that the snow wont melt before Xmas. I think at the moment it is -17C :snow:. We went 3 years ago for our honeymoon and spent Easter there so we are really looking foward to spending Xmas and New Year there before mum moves back next year.

Im one sided and think that Canada is the best option but in the bottom of my heart I have always wanted to somewhere in Europe. Im a sucker for the UK show Eastender so would love to go to the UK.

The easy part is finding a place to travel. The hard part is saving....and packing.

I'll let you know how white my Xmas is. We have the internet over there so I might post some pictures. xoxo

We don't really get snow until Jan/Feb here in the UK so your best bet is Europe or in the rockies even Toronto didn't get a stable fall last year, my GF lives there and was disappointed!
