I'm looking for some ideas on how to get Olivia to settle during the night. Up until 12 wks she was a terrible daytime sleeper and only woke 11pm and 3amish for feeds, I could handle that. Then at the 12 wk mark I finally got her sleeping well during the day and her nighttime sleep went hay wire. She started waking all hours of the night and so we just ended up bringing her in with us. I could always get her back to sleep after her feeds, but even now I struggle. So not only is she waking through the night, it can take me an hour or so to get her back to sleep after a feed. I used to put her to bed at 7 and not hear from her until her next feed at 11, now she wakes constantly.

She can self settle too, does during the day, so can't understand why she is not putting herself back to sleep at night.

Is there a gentle form of cc. I will not let her cry for an extended period, out of frustration I have done this once or twice and we both get too worked up.
Any advice or methods would be great. I need sleep, alone, with my hubby.

Well how long is she sleeping during the day? I know babies love their sleep but maybe there are to many naps during the day? I know with DD if she has to many naps in the day she wont go to bed until 11 (but shes always been able to sleep through the night for 12hrs at a time since 6weeks old)

Also maybe start doing a night time routine, after the last bottle that you want to give her mnaybe have a bath, then pajama's and then sing a song and lay her in bed (with all the lights loqw and you very relaxed) and after maybe a week or a few of them she should get into a routine..?

sorry if imnot much help >.<!

Thanks for your reply. Olivia has a good bedtime routine, has done since she was born. The day time sleeps could be the answer. I really am not sure what to do about them . I have just cut down from 4 sleeps to 3 as she really struggles to stay awake otherwise. I am trying now to get to have 3hrs during the day over 2-3 naps. Problem is, if I try and stretch her sleeps out, she gets overtired???
Ahh, why they don't come with a manual, I'll never know.

Tracy, there is a book by Elizabeth Pantley called "The No Cry Sleep Solution" which you might find helpful. Also Dr Sears has a book out.. don't remember the name but it might be called The Sleep Book or something...? Anyway, both of those advocate not letting babies cry. The don't offer overnight solutions but I know people who have been prepared to work at it for a few weeks have had great success.
