I have to make a confession....after using MCN for a year, with the zeal of the newly converted - (I even used them without break on our drive for three days from Brisbane to Canberra, while we lived in a hotel etc) - I have been using disposables for the last three weeks and don't know if I can go back...........:o

I started using disposables while I was sick - and had some handy as DS uses the same size as DD2 who wears them at night. I tried to get up the enthusiasm to go back to cloth today - but it leaked within an hour of being on, and smelt like smelly hemp......and I put a disposable on to replace it.

So - can someone help me to get my enthusiasm back - otherwise I will have to sell my stash as I can't justify them on the grounds of cost saving anymore when I am heading off to Aldi each fortnight for a pack of disposables!!!

I think you just need to go back to the cloth sub-forum and open some of the pics other mums have posted to help reignite that ol' spark

Just think of all the money you will be saving and you will be helping the enviroment in so many ways.

I don't know if i can talk you into it,i think its nice to have a day break from cloth once in a while(like when sick) but i always go back to cloth,i always miss the big cheeky cloth bum :p don't you miss that?

I will give it a go. Part of my concern is that DH has always been resistant to them and I have often insisted on using them just to spite him (sad but true) but he is due to return from a 3 month stint overseas, and even that isn't enough to push me to get the basket folded and back in circulation!

What type of mcns do you use, maybe stick with the easier ones with your stash...

now with summer coming up give all you mcns a refreshing wash and hang them out on the line.

good luck... do you have any aio's monkey doodlez or bum genius

I think people who even use them for a couple of months should be very proud  You've done so well to go a year  I've never used MCN's, but I think its a big effort to persist with it... Hopefully someone can get you enthusiastic again :D

i have the same problem. dd refused to wear them so instead of bending her to it i just gave up and went sposies - and i will probably use mostly sposies on the next one too:D

Iuld be so great if you could get back to cloth for all the reasons we all know but if you think you can't to would be great if you choose the 100% biodegradable sposies that are now available in supermarkets . because at least if people can't or don't want to use cloth or still want sposies at night it will be better on the enviroment.
Like someone else said, at least you did a year! :yelclap:thinks of all that landfill you saved
:xmas:

Just forget about it for the moment. The enthusiasm will probably come back. I had a break for a while because bubby was taking them off all the time and wouldn't sit still so I just put a sposie on him and the clothies just sat there.

But then one day the enthusiasm came back. I have never put any pressure on myself though, I only did it for fun anyway, it was fun too, and now its fun again.

I have always used sposies overnight and when we go out anyway.

Don't feel too guilty, I did the same. I used cloth exclusively for ages, got pregnant and started throwing up at every smell, switched to sposies without a second thought and cannot bring myself to use cloth again.

I am keeping mine though, just in case.

Ah - Dont feel bad draught. When hubby is away I use sposies... though I do make a point of using only 100% biodegradable ones. I also use sposies when out and about and overnight too. Jedd wont sleep or settle with a damp toosh - so they are a fantastic key for survival.

I agree with LP - try sticking with the easy ones like AIO's to ease yourself back into it. I know for myself, if a pocket isn't already stuffed, then I wont use it. I'll reach for a sposie

Dont be too hard on yourself - just be green and you will probably ease yourself back into it in the New Year :sunshine:

Perhaps you shouldn't look at as giving up.

Perhaps you should look at it as embracing a new mantle... the Aldi Queen.

Without RM espousing the virtues of the Aldi nappy, it has been oddly quiet on BH.

Perhaps the time has come for a new mother to step up to the Aldi Nappy Throne?

(Meanwhile, as someone who has used cloth & disposable, I can repeat my mantra: a happy, sane mother makes for a happier, calmer home. And a happy husband who concludes (wrongly) that he was right all along makes for a husband who is more inclined to being generous when you may be feeling (a) cranky (b) overwhelmed or (c) just over it generally.)

Pssst....what a time to login....my ears were burning....:goodvibes:

Draughty, use what you feel comfortable with and what keeps you sane. I remember almost getting excited about cloth once (whilst you were here of course) but luckily I was saved by Ry toilet training.

MM is right, it is time for someone to step up and wave the Aldi flag. For the moment, I've happily forgotten about nappies altogether.

The only good nappy is NO nappy :flowerz:

Maybe you could picture the steaming pile of plastic sitting in landfill or the thousands of litres of clean water being used to manufacture them ;)

Gosh I'm a meanie hey?

Nah, good on you for at least trying!!
Just keep the nappies for a while, you might have a change of heart.

I dont understand this at all TBH, I wash twice a week (nappies)...its really not a big deal in my house at all....I cant understand it...but then again, only one child, SAHM and no morning sickness.

I think that I will take up several suggestions from above (not sure if I am ready to don the cape of the Aldi queen - RM has left some mighty big boots to fill) and just wait. I have been single parenting for 3 months to 3 kids under 5, working, had all sorts of dramas from dogs requiring emergency surgery through to children knocking teeth out - and I think having one less 'chore' to think about, coinciding nicely with DD2 toilet training and therefore reducing our environmental guilt-load by half, has meant that it has been easier to not use them.

I will fold them all, sit them there ready, and wait for the enthusiasm to return.

And DH thinking he was right should make a nice change in our house where I am ALWAYS right!

Just go to OzCloth and look up the articles about the research into the contents if disposables. It is disgusting, it makes me vow never to let them touch my sons toosh anyway.
