There is a posting opportunity for DH to go to LA and work on the coast guard. The posting is for 2 years.
There is many pros and cons though... we will be financially set if he gets the posting but i am worried about how will i cope being overseas from my family.
FIL is telling him to apply as he will regret it if he doesn't. We made the decision the other night that we won't do it, but now DH wants to.
I don't know what to do... DH was putting in for a transfer to become something else, but if he decides to put his application in for the LA posting he will have to withdraw his application. Then if he misses out on the LA posting, he will miss the intake for the other position.
Do we take that chance?

Do it! You only live once.
You might even find you'll have a fantastic time!
I'd be doing it.
Your family will always be there for you and they (his work) may even pay for you to revisit OZ once or twice a yr.

My hubby is in the RAAF and my dad was Army...we mainly did overseas posting with Dad and my DH has applied for Malaysia at the end of next year...my advice from a childs point of veiw and now a wifes point of veiw DO IT !!!!!
It is wonderful and you get travel allowences to come home to see family twice a year...its magic and look fantastic on their service record..he will have no problems transfering when he get home if he still wants too.
Oh please please please dont let a fab oppotunity like this pass you by !!!!

Do it! It would be such a great opportunity and you would get to experience another country. Just remember, it is only for 2 years and then you get to come home. I would be packing my bags if my hubby had the opportunity to do something like this in his job.

Its only open to the Navy, and his field, but would they send a single guy over a married guy with a family?

In my experience probably not..they would preffer a family man cause they would be less inclined to get up to no good and would be more grounded at there immediate family is already with them so less need to travel home on short notice.

Hi Kristi I spent a few years of my childhood in Malaysia due to my father being in the RAAF and it was awesome. I still go back there now and it just feels like home to me, all the smells and sounds. So good decision there!!!
Honeyblossom - I say do it! Yes you might miss your family but you will be back home before you know it. Good luck with your decision!

Yep, its a big call, but you have to support your man 100% - you are a team, right? If its not forever, then give it a shot - you will have a child - a great connection with other mums.
Yes, it will be hard, I moved overseas in July and it wasn't easy and I am an outgoing friendly person...but I am making the best of it.
You will look back in a few years and be grateful for the experience (and it sounds like a great job!)
Family can visit ...
oh wow, you won't know for 6 months! That gives you time to adjust to the idea!
