Just wanted to know if anyone knew or could piont me in the dirrection of a sight that could tell me the survival rates of pre-term babies.
I'm am asking for two reasons.
1st- I have been showing signs of going into pre-term labour for a while now.
2nd- I have just come home from hospital due to pregnancy induced pelvic displacia. I am in a great deal of pain and have to use a walking frame to get around. I'm between 32 &34 weeks pregnant(doc's can't decide on dates) & bub's weights about 4 1/2 lb's. My doc's have suggested inducing me early. I want to know what my bub's chances are if they induce me in the next 2-3weeks. Will bub have any permanent probs?
If I'm 34 weeks & bub is induced in 3weeks time I know it will be fine, but what if I'm realy 32weeks & they induce me in 2weeks (or less) time. What will happen then?
Have had so many complications this pregnancy and would like to have bub as soon as possible, but only if bub will be OK.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS: please excuse any spelling errors.

Hi Trish, im so sorry that you are going through so much, i imagine you must be in a great deal of pain, how are you coping with the other children as well? I wouldnt worry to much about your baby,(easier said than done I know!) babies of this gestation basically have a 100% survival rate, unless they have other problems unrelated to their early arrival and it sounds as though bubba is a pretty good size to, so try and relax and im sure that if your baby does have to come early it is going to get the very best of care.

Thanks coopsntilly you have made me feel abit better.
I guess I'm kind of feeling guilty because I want this to be over but would hate for anything to go wrong with bub. I would just hate myself if that happened.
Trying to relax as I know stressing won't help.
My other two kids have been great, especialy my boy who had his 6th birthday on Tuesday when I was in hospital. He didn't care, I just had to promise I would make him a spiderman cake when I feel better. :D
My mum & dad have taken the kids camping for the long weekend so I'm able to have a good rest for a few days. Only problem is I have to make my own cuppa tea's now my daughter isn't here. LOL
Thanks again for your support. :)

Your poor thing!!!!!!!!

At least things can only get better.

My daughter was born by emergency caeser at 34 weeks (4lb 11) , and she has no health issues.

She spent a touch over 3 weeks in the special care nursery, only because she could not suck (apparently this is something that does not develop in the womb until they are about 37 weeks.

People kept talking about adjusting her age? But I just treated her normally and she is just fine. A little on the petite side unlike me, but the paedatrictian said to that she will just be a baby for longer.

Good Luck

I had a show with both my children at 34 weeks and went into false labour. With the second I was hospitalised overnight and given steroid injections (do make sure you get these as they do boost your baby's chances incredibly by maturing their lungs).

I also had pelvic problems with my second, my muscles were very weak and so I was put on couch rest to ensure they wouldn't tear.

If you do rest to the max you may prolong things a bit more.

After these initial scares and the subsequent rest I went to 36 weeks with my first and 37 with my second. They both came out perfect.

Good luck and try not to stress and that will only make things worse.

I really feel for you! you sound like you are in so much pain!

Usually babies who are born this early are fine just smaller than they would be at birth. My friend had a baby at 26 weeks and he is australia's smallest baby (300g) although her has some problems with his lungs he is perfectly healthy so I wouldn't worry at all. :)

trish I understand what you mean about wanting it over but feeling guilty because you also want bubs to stay in for as long as poss! dont feel bad, i felt like that as well when we thought tilly was going to come early, i was stuck in RPA for wks away from my other kids and i remember thinking, 'at least if she came i could go home occasssionally to the other children and i wouldnt be in any more pain' and then in the next instance wishing desperately that she would stay there a bit longer! and i know this is how alot of the other mums were feeling who were there with various problems, so id say all these thoughts are totally normal and i think the best thing for you right now is rest, rest and more rest! if anything id say bubs will be just fine and it will be you the doctors will be more worried about :o

Hi Trish

I had my little boy at 34weeks, he was 5lb 8oz. He had to stay in special care nursery for 3 weeks to learn how to suck, he also suffered from a bit of jaundice but that isn't unusual. I found spending as much time as possible with him and persisting with feeding even if he only sucked a couple of times. Each day usually gets better and better. Don't forget to ask lots a questions, i found the midwives really helpfull.

hope all goes well

Hi

My baby was born at 30 weeks. I had no problems with my pregnancy at all. For some reason she wanted out of there. She is now 5.5 months old and is a very healthy baby loves her food and has put on heaps of weight. Her milestones are correct for her age.

Don't worry too much, it is amazing what technology they have out there to help these babies along. I hope everything goes well for you.

I rang the hospital last night as the pain was unberable. They just said to go to bed and stay there. This did not help at all. I can hardly move due to the pain.
I went to see my doctor 2day & she took one look at me & rang the hospital. She basicaly got the same reponse as me. She was so mad  She wanted to induce me but the hospital says I'm only 33weeks & they won't induce me because it's too early. My doctor says I'm 35weeks & either way it would be sfe to induce me now. Doc has put me on Panadine Forte (8tablets a day) & said she will make sure I'm induced in 2 weeks time. I don't know how I'll make it through another 2 weeks, but at least there's an end in sight.
Just wondering now how the panadine is going to effect bub, especialy taking that much? It makes me sleepy will it make bub sleepy too? What other side effects will it have in bub?
The pain is incredable & the panadine hasn't helped much yet.
Just trying to hang in there. :(

Trish you poor poor thing, i cant believe the hospital wont help you, it makes me so mad. Taking the panediene should be fine, especially at this later stage of pregnancy, just whatever you do do not exceed 8 in 24 hrs, it can also make you constipated, not very nice i know. i assume if it makes you sleepy then it might make the baby a bit sleepy too, but they sleep most of the time at this point anyway! just try and be as comfortable as you can be and dont do anything! I feel so sorry for you and i hope this has a happy outcome soon :o
