is it safe to bleach hair??

hi girls, im still very new to this, and hoping this goes through. im wondering if any of you know, if it is safe to bleach your hair when pregnant? ive heard recently its not, i work in a salon, (in the beauty part) so am always bleaching my hair (hate regrowth) anyone know! thanks. :confused:

I got blonde foils throughout my pregnancy - these are safe because they dont hit the scalp like home bleaching, so I would go with them! :)

i'd stick with the foils or streaks as it does not come into direct contact with the scalp :thumbsup:

Apparently its OK to put on the scalp. I am a colourist and was worried about colouring hair while I was pregnant. I was told by the product company that if it came into contact with the skin it was fine but I was personally concerned about the fumes and avoided them while I was pregnant (perms too!!)

I bleached my hair several times when I was pregnant. I think the most important thing is to do it in a very well ventilated area.

My SIL is a hairdresser and she was begging me to do my during my pregnancy & she kept telling me it was safe,she had her hair dyed constantly during her pregnancies.:)
I never dyed mine though any of mine as i thought its only 9 months & I'll fix it up when my baby is born, but the whole time i was wishing that i did as it started to look like crap!:o

As far as I know it is the fumes not the actual dye itself. They used to recommend to pg ladies not to dye their hair, but it was because of a certain chemical in the dye which I believe they no longer use anymore.;)

Not sure how accurate it is, but I have a copy of "What to Expect When You're Expecting" and it says that there haven't been enough tests to prove whether or not hair colouring is safe or not during pregnancy...and suggests it may be best to avoid it.

That being said, however, I dyed my hair (only once) during my pregnancy and if my baby has any problems, they are yet to be discovered.

I, personally, wouldn't bleach my hair during pregnancy...just like nail fumes, I'm sure they're doing you no good...but providing you're in a well vetilated area...it might be okay. (Maybe you could get one of the girls from work to come over and do it at your house or something...?)

Yeah Im a hairdresser and I recomend to clients that it is ok to do ur hair but the thing I think is when I did my hair just when I fel PG my hair was very sensative...

bleach can be really bad when u have ur period and stuff from experience it gets itchier but U should be fine....

Personally I would stick to foils... as I have been doing...
