Hi Galfriday,
I used to live in Darwin and still live in the Territory just in a remote location (and hadn't been wanting to give away my identity as we haven't told anyone about our pregnancy!! - But hello to all those Territorians;) )! I had my daughter in the public hospital and my 2 sons in the private and will be having my next in the private aswell. Both hospitals are great but for personal reasons I will be going to the private again.
The private hospital is great and the midwives are lovely - most of them are still the same ones as when I had my first son. Obstetricians are few and far between in Darwin and sometimes can be quite difficult to get in to (so I would try to book in with one as soon as you can). The most popular obs are Dr Jenny Mitchell and Dr Miller (not sure of first name). There is also Dr. Cho and one other who changes quite frequently (what I mean is that different obs come and go except for Miller Mitchell and Cho) this is as far as I know unless it has changed since I had my 14mth old. I have used Jenny Mitchell on both occasions I went private and will be using her again, she is lovely and great.
Best of luck with the move and your pregnancy and birth. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions at all about Darwin (I was born there and lived there until 2 1/2 years ago and still visit frequently) or about the Private Hospital.
Sorry about the essay:ecomcity:
LOL JenNT, I always wondered what the NT in your name stood for:rolleyes:
I am ex-Darwin and can highly recommend Jenny Mitchell too - she provides obstetric care that is a cross between a doctor and a midwife - the only problem might be that she is hard to get an appointment with as she doesn't tend to take on as many as Dr Miller - so call straight away and explain your situation.

no comment pmsl:cool:

My Obstetrician was Dr Andrew Miller. Even though he was thorough I wasn't exactly thrilled with his bedside manner. The Private hospital itself was very good. If I were to do it all over again I'd solely recommend Dr Jenny Mitchell. As far as I'm aware, Dr Miller is pretty fussy with accepting new clientele. I believe he will be retiring soon.
Hi
Although not in Darwin anymore, I had my DS at Darwin Private with Dr Miller. I thought he was lovely and would be happy to share through pm. I'm with another OB in Perth at the moment and although he seems really nice - I sort of miss Dr Miller. Had a couple of friends who went through Dr Mitchell and another through Dr Miller - all good reports and varied stories. I'm happy to check if any of them are happy for their details to be given out (emails) for them to share their stories too.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I will Pm a few of you in the next couple of days. My computer is playing up and keeps rebooting driving me nuts!!!
Sounds like Darwin is very similar to Adelaide in terms of getting in to see OBs can be difficult.
If anyone would like to share nice subbubs to live that will be great also. At the moment we are searching or rental houses on the net but finding it difficult as we have no idea where anything is or distances ect. DH will be working at the uni Casurina campus. At the moment im looking at any house with a swimming pool as i have no idea how i will deal with the heat lol
any tips would be great
Thanks you again
:)

jenNT - I live in Alyangula, Groote Eylandt, Lovely spot but very remote all of 1200 people when the town is full!!
Hey I lived in Anula from 1983-84, went to Anula Primary and Fannie Bay until 1987 going to Parap Primary Berrimah in 1988 and went to Darwin High... Any of you NT people have similar locations/schools in your past?
Hey Jem,
Would love to visit Groote whilst hubby wants to be posted there one day. I would settle for Gove...maybe:) !
Shelby, sorry I'm an adopted territorian
It's funny how things go in cycles - when we moved to the territory for a couple of years - I ended up doing my antenatal yoga in the staffroom at Alawa Primary where my hubby went to primary school in the early 80's (think about 83/84) and my boss (at the time) was a teacher around that time!!!
