Okay I'm fed up. Back story long but I guess necessary for ya'll to understand.

So the car fiasco with the inlaws. Oh by the way, FIL "bought you a car" (isn't he a big hero). Actually, that was nice and all - it's the strings that always come with these "tokens" that aren't nice.

FIL says that there a just "a few things" to fix up and that he will drive it up to us when it's ready.

This was months ago.

Recently when DH was giving them his latest roster he's told that the car is ready and since he (DH) has 4 days off in a row he can come and pick it up because (yet again - another time another place/scenario/drama) FIL doesn't "feel like it". Anyways, DH gets off the phone and asks me if I'll drive it home since I'm going down the following week anyway.

Keep in mind if DH had collected the car it would have been driven home by him on Monday (27/2).

I fly in Monday (27/2) and SHOCK HORROR the car isn't ready! FIL has to get the lining on the roof in the car stuck back on and replace the aerial. Fair enough. Pity about the nasty wet weather and my wanting to get used to driving the car before I drove it 600+kms up the coast home!!

So anyway I finally get told it will be ready Friday (3/3) so I arranged to pick it up Friday night (MIL says "oh we thought you'd pick it up Saturday!). My dad is driving me there from the train station after working all day and I'm talking to DH on the phone. DH tells me, "Dad (his) needs your Dad (mine) to rotate the back tyres to the front". Now my dad isn't the one with the electric hoist in his front yard! Immediately I'm annoyed thinking well he had a week before I arrived to do stuff and the week of my arrival to arrange this / ask me to arrange this and it's sprung on me at 6pm Friday night?! I'm then told that the aerial is broken (the one FIL was fixing remember?), the washer water bottle is broken ( raining anyone?!!!), something else is not working and well, pretty much I tuned out. I said that his and my Dad could talk when we arrived and they could sort it out.

So we get there - my dad and his talk and his dad asks my dad to arrange for the tyres to be rotated. AS I AM GETTING IN THE CAR I am told that the air conditioning turn dial doesn't work (it's just stuck on) but I won't need a heater anyway (yeah because it's only an average of -5 where I live a fair amount of the winter morns!). Who needs a heater with a newborn either? FIL says he will pick up a knob from the wreckers and put it on next time we're down (yeah right!). He also tells me that the radio doesn't work and we'll have to buy a new one. At this stage I am too tired to give a hoot and drive the thing home.

This morning my Dad gets up early to look at the car. Rotate the front tyres to the back? The front passenger tyre is BALD - it is illegal!!!!!!! I am going to be driving 600+kms and my stupid FIL says oh rotate the front tyres to the back. Not only that but the washer bottle has no bottom whatsoever, the aerial is still broken (surprise, surprise), there's no internal light cover, I am on the lookout for a knob for the aircon, the boot leaks, there are huge rusted holes underneath the spare tyre in the boot (which is also just as bad as the bald tyre on the car - guess who didn't look in the boot?), So I had to purchase a new washer bottle which my dad is going to install that tomorrow. Oh and the aerial FIL was fixing? I had to buy one of those, a cover for the internal light, a WHEEL BRACE, 2 new tyres, fit and balance (FIL says who needs to balance tyres????). Good thing I didn't pick it up Saturday or all the wreckers would have been shut!

My vent: I am not angry that these things weren't done. I am angry that I wasn't told about them until the very last minute. I let my DH know today that I wasn't happy and about 20 mins later I receive a phone call from MIL asking about the car. Coinkidink anyone? FIL very nicely bought this car for us (well DH anyway) and I am grateful for that. I do not begrudge having to BUY the items necessary but I DO BEGRUDGE and am VERY ANNOYED that last minute I find out these things are necessary and spend my weekend running around trying to find everything that I need before going home.

Not to mention that my mother is now  and will be nasty to DH because she doesn't get that what his parents do is not him :banghead: so it will be great with her driving back with me and staying the week since her and my husband have such a GREAT relationship anyway

Oh and the air con knob? The whole unit actually needs replacing so I bought one of those. Yay me. So over this crap and being the bad guy.

I know how inlaws can be so annoying at times, they think they are helping by giving you stuff but it ends up needing to be fixed or money spent on it.

FIL gave us his car when he bought a new one, told us it was perfectly fine nothing needed to be done so far we have spend about $1000 new tires plus a whole lot of other things needed to be fixed.

And I am still waiting for the return of our whipper snipper, FIL took it to be fixed for us, still waiting for it after two months, not only that he took it somewhere near him which is an hour away from us when he could have taken it to someone just up the road from us and it would have been alot quicker getting it fixed.

And then there been the talk of our deck being built - FIL says he would do it for us with dh's help thats been over two years now and nothing has been done.
Thats partly dh's fault as well, so i am thinking of just asking my brother for advice with the deck to get things rolling.

Some inlaws think they are just being helpful and don't realise that they are causing more problems.

Are our inlaws related?!!! lol Although in our case the whipper snipper we got from the inlaws (it was a gift to DH and brand new). The first time DH used it the lever (can't think of better word) broke off! FIL said to send it back to him which we did and months later we get a whipper snipper back. Not the same one (which had a blade as well) just a cheaper one because FIL "couldn't be bothered" fixing the broken one.

Just discovered that there are no bolts in the bumper bar either. It's turning into a real comic relief - would be funnier if I didn't want to yell at someone!!!

FIL big notes himself saying he'll do something and months later he only half does it and gives it back. Thanks a bunch!

Could be worse - you could have inlaws that buy you a brand new BBQ and then send emails to each other saying, and I quote, "I hope when she sets the BBQ up it drops on her head"....

ouch!! well, when my hubby & i were together, my ILs did actually get me nice things (that worked) once in a while - but then i felt REALLY guilty that i couldn't return the favour (lack of money - mind you, they didn't have much themselves!) & even if i was to return the favour - what do u give ppl that have everything they need?! (& r very fussy!)

Why would they even buy a car like that in the first place??? Sounds like your FIL got ripped off, if it's in that crappy condition someone should have paid HIM to tow it away!

Charming! They sound just as wonderful as mine. Maybe even more so!

The best one I've got to date from MIL to my mother is "I wanted my son to marry my best friend's daughter but it's too late now - SHE'S pregnant!".

Directly to me I have been told that her daughter's kids will always be number 1.

Now the engine light keeps coming on and I've been told I need to take it to a repair place and have it checked out. Not that I'm driving 8 hours tomorrow..........! :(
