Cobey has decided that now is time. :p
I'm on work holidays in 2.5 weeks so it's pretty good timing really :D So what I'd like is a crash-course in toilet training for littlies.

I ask because I was told that boys take longer and not to expect anything until he's 2 and a half nearly 3... but Cobes has so far done wee-wees when HE'S told me he's about to for the last 3 mornings.
(twice he said "Poo" and pulled his nappy, I think he needed to poo but the excitement that comes with peeing on the potty took over the poo-feeling... and this morning he looked at me and - with no nappy on - grabbed his willy... but by the time I tripped over several toys and threw him towards the toilet we were just tooo later)
I know it's only once a day, but I figure it's a big step and - as said - at the right time.

So what sort of tips and tricks can I administer for the wee lad?

Well, if he knows he needs to do it, and can take himself to the potty - you're way ahead! :)

With Andrew, I just left him nappy free, and it only took a few days for him to confidently take himself to the potty every time. I didn't do anything, other than praise him a lot - no bribes at that stage. He knew what to do, and did it.

Moving to the toilet is a bigger issue. Bribes came in handy then! A few M&M's were fantastic motivation :) And again, only a few days before it stuck.

It doesn't sound like Cobey isn't going to need much coercing! He's a super baby, always ahead of the pack :D

ooh I was thinking of getting some stamps for his hand for when he did a wee on the potty...
He's not doing it every time... or every time he has nappy-free-time. Shortly after this mornings mishap he was sitting on my bed when he decided to pee on my bed and ON MY BRAND NEW MOBILE PHONE.

Cheers Noo!

Same. except we didn't use a potty at all, they just stand on one of those littel stools you can buy and use that to wee into the toilet.

We've got a toilet seat with a step for if they want to 'sit down'.. by generally they still ask for a nappy if they need to do a poo...

That will come when they're ready for it...

It only took 2 days for Oliver, and about 4 for Jordan.

We haven't had an accident in weeks. (they've been in undies for a month now)

good luck!

you can buy these things... that look like little mini urinals on hooks that hook over the toilet bowl making a little 'shorter' urinal for little boys.

I can't remember what it's called though...

I've seen those, but I think I'd prefer that he learns to sit and pee for a while, he likes to play with his wee-winkle but I don't fancy letting him aim with it just yet

well not only that but he's only 16 months old... I don't think he has the ability to control his penis (or "BEEE-NISSSSSS") to aim really... he doesn't really get a chance to 'see how it's done' either as my sister is living with us... so it's sit-down-to-pee on the pink-potty for us!

Just curious - is Cobey in cloth nappies?

It sounds like he is doing really well for only 16 months. My only advice would be to leave him with no nappy as much as possible, accidents are bound to happen but oh well, what do you do. The only thing I can think of is to stay away from pull ups because they just don't get that uncomfortable wet feeling. They really make toilet training harder IMO anyway. Good luck. Oh I hope your mobile recovered.

Now, the next question (in a vain attempt to do a not so obvious bump) anyone who has had a young tot TT so soon... how did they go in the whole undies thing - I try to get Cobes to pull his shorts up and down, he's great at getting them down but no interested in pulling them up

Seekrit - I don't have any advice for you sorry, but I am in a similar situation. My DD is 1 day younger than Cobey and we have been doing part-time toileting for about 2 weeks. We have some great days were we manage to 'capture' some poos and wees in the toilet, then other days it all ends up in the nappy.

I guess I am doing it casually and not wanting to push it too early. My problem is DD doesn't yet let me know when she needs to go. When I think she may need to go (after a meal or big drink) I will ask her if she needs to go to the toilet. If she walks there I take that as a cue to mean yes.

I think being in cloth nappies makes a big difference to them being able to learn wet and dry.

I read somewhere that you can do 'intensive toilet traing in 2 or 3 days'. While the weather is warm, set aside a few days and spend those few days in the garden. Leave your little one with no nappy on and have the potty outside. Encourage them to drink lots of water and take them to the potty each time. Supposedly by day 3 they are trained. Not sure if this actually works, but if you have the time it may be worth a try. I am thinking of doing it, but I just seem to have too much on at the moment, so I am waiting to get a few days free so we can try it out.

Good luck!

Basically, we have had a potty sitting around for ages, just so B could get used to it being there, he started showing TT signs, and started watching us on the toilet... the he just went on the potty...

he still occationally has an accident (doesnt want to stop playing to go potty!) but 99% does wees and poos in the potty... we have never had to tell him, ask him etc, he just runs around naked and goes when he needs too...

he started in 'undies' last week at home, and will take them off, but not put them back on... he started in undies at daycare this week and only had one accident! yay!! we let him choose his own undies (trucks:rolleyes:) and hes happy to wear them, and loooves choose new ones to put on (even if the old ones are still clean!)
