hi there, Im still breastfeeding my 12mth old first thing in the morning and last thing at night. I've been getting my periods since he started going through the night at 3mths old so would have thought that my ovulation was sorted. After 3 mths of trying now I wondered if - just because I have a period does that deffo mean that I have ovulated? And if I stopped bfeeding all together would that make a difference to my fertility? These might be silly questions but appreciate your help!

Hi Sand,

I am only new to this online chat thing, but when I saw your thread I was immediately relating to your situation. So I wanted to let you know that the questions you asked are not silly and I too need answers to similar questions.

I too am breastfeeding my nine month old and would love to conceive sooner then later but dont really want to stop the breastfeeding. I have however had a period in January and am still waiting for the next. I thought or (wished) I was pregnant but the pregnancy test said no.

I would think in your situation you would be ovulating, seeing you are menstrating monthly. Have you tried an ovulation kit. you can get them from the supermarket now!!!:fingerscrossed:

hi Denni thanks for your answer and empathy! Yip we think we will go for the ovulation kit this month. We were actually using one to NOT get pregnant when i conceived my son so I know they work!! well kind of. Good luck to you too. Is your bub sleeping through the nigh. I only dropped one feed and my period came back - maybe that would do the trick for you?

I think I had my period back for several months without ovulating, but I cut back the feeds and that seemed to do the trick. The thing is that everyone is different, so one woman can get pg while bf 8 times a day and another might have to wean. Have a look at kellymom.com (sorry, don't have the exact link) - I found it very useful. Good luck!!
