Hi,
My son who just about to turn one seems to be dropping to one day sleep. He will go down ok in the morning but refuses his afternoon nap. When i have been out this week and put him down for a nap in the middle of the day he has a good couple of hours and seems happy untill bed. The problem i have is im unsure what time to put him down for this nap? He usually wakes around 7.30 - 8.00am and goes to bed around 8.00 - 830 any suggestions?

Hi JOshiesmum,

Hope this note reaches you in good spirits. Sophia is now 17 months, it wasn't until 13/14 months that she dropped to one sleep. Her routine would go as follows;

Previous night: milk at 6.40pm, and bed by 7.00pm

Wake 7.00am

Milk 10.15am

Bed 10.30am/10.45am

Wake 1.5/2 hours later

Lunch

I would put her in her cot for half hour/hour at around 3.00pm, not necessarily to sleep, but to rest, so that she could stretch out to bed time at 7.00pm.

Without the afternoon sleep, there is no way that she could stretch longer than 7.30 to go to bed, and if she does, she's overtired and it takes longer. So we stick to it and it works for her and she sleeps 12 hours.

We have followed the routines that Tizzie Hall suggests on www.saveoursleep.com.au

Hope I've helped in some way?
maria

Hi There!

I chose to drop my DS back to one day sleep when he was 15 months, only because he started waking at night. As soon as I dropped back to one day sleep he was back sleeping through. It took him a little bit to adjust as we wasn't used to being up anymore that 3 hours at a time, but here is his day routine:

Up 7-7.30

day sleep 11.30 to 2.00 - 2.30

back in bed 7.00-7.30

Hope this helps!!!

DD1 used to do the following....

7:30am awake
brekky/bottle
play

11:30am lunch/bottle
quiet play for half an hour or so

12:30pm sleep - until between 3:00pm and 3:30pm (obviously as she got older the nap got shorter)

3:30pm ish - afternoon tea

6:00pm dinner, bath, bottle, bed at 7:30pm
