Hey guys, sorry if there is TMI, but I have heard of some ladies expieriencing leaking amniotic fluid- I am 28 weeks and i have found some watery stuff in my undies that wasn't urine but looked to thin for discharge, not alot but enough to get me worried... how can you tell if it is just discharge or amniotic fluid? Is is really bad if I am leaking fluid?

It CAN be bad - or it might not be. An amniotic fluid leak usually means that you've had a rupture of the membranes, but these CAN repair - or not cause problems - but the only way to tell definitely is to do a PH test on it.

I would be contacting your middies or OB ASAP - if it IS a leak, it could be pre-empting premature labour, which can be halted - but the sooner you get treatment the better.

HTH :) and good luck.

Hi

Try not to worry too much. I have had 2 kids, my first pregnancy was easier than my second. But with my 2nd, i started loosing fluid at 22 weeks, it was horrible for me, I had to have steriod injections straight away, and i was warned i could go into labour any day. I last until 36weeks, and had a csar, but i had absolutely no fluid at all left. They also gave me regular scans and measured my fluid to know how much and regularly i was loosing it. We were warned of problems we would have with our baby once she was born, like crooked legs, arms neck and that she would be in the premie ward and in intensive care for up to 4 weeks, but, she was born perfect! She went to intensive care for 2 hours only and was with me the rest of the time. She only had one foot slightly crooked but that only lasted a couple of days.

Make sure you get it checked out, I had no idea what was going on, and i did have a stressful pregnancy, not knowing when my baby was going to come, but it worked out perfect.

hi there

I thought i was leaking fluid too but i cant remember how far i was when this happened (dd is 3.5 now). I went to my GP, and was reassured- they do a swab test (if i can remember) and he noted that i had internal thrush which was causing a more gross discharge than normal (sorry TMI i know). It is a real worry and the only way to be reassured is to go and see your health care person or Ob.
Dont leave it, in case it is... try not to worry but get it seen too!!!
Wishing you all the best

Thank you- what colour was your discharge? how much of it normally came out?
