Hi there,
I'm a first time mum to a 9 week old baby girl and I'm not sure if she is feeding enough for her age.
The first few weeks after she was born she was feeding up to 10 times a day, then gradually got down to 6 feeds a day.
But now,for the last 2 weeks she's sometimes only been feeding 5 times a day (for about half an hour to 40 minutes each time),and sleeping for 6 to 8 hours during the night until waking for her next feed.
For example, yesterday her feeding pattern was this:
5.30am,9.15am,1pm,6pm,11pm then slept until almost 6am this morning.
As I said, this only happens sometimes,so is it ok?
She was 3.27kg when she was born and is now 4.65kgs,so she is putting on weight.
Any advice appreciated!

Hi
I think your daughter is fine. She is still feeding and and for half an hour at a time and putting on weight so I dont think there would be anything to worry about.

she sounds very content to me so i would say she is getting enough, enjoy having that few hrs of unbroken sleep at night!

You daughter seems fine and is contented. One thing to remember is when they are hungry they will wake up so enjoy the sleep while you can,!

Hi there,

And as long as they have frequent wet nappies than that is a sign too. Your baby sounds quite normal. Contact your local Australian Breastfeeding Association Counsellor of you are having any other worries. The ABA website is:

All the best & relax!
