View Full Version : Better to talk to Dr or Child health Nurse?
Who is it best to initially talk to about getting your children circumsised? Dr or Child Health Nurse? I would have no clues as to where to start but DH and I are really thinking about getting it done for health reasons as we have heard so much about boys getting infections all the time.
If you are sure that you want to get it done then I would go to the doctor, they can refer you to the hospital to have it done.
Have either of your boys had any infections? If not, then most drs, even at the hospi, will probably advise against having it done. Even with history of infections in our family we were still advised not to have it done. DH didn't want DS done, but we still considered it. My dad was circumcised when he was 4yrs old coz of repeated infections, and also my nephew had a few infections as a bub, we wanted to avoid both situations.
We were advised to wait and see if DS had any infections, then if he did start to get them we could always have it done then. DS was never circumcised, neither was my nephew, he just seemed to outgrow the infections and hasn't had one since he was about 10mths old (he had about 5 or 6 before that and one more would have ment the drs would have done it).
My brother was circumcised when he was a few weeks old, my parents got a referal from their dr and the hospi was happy to do it...he's 17 now tho, alot has changed since then and can be harder to find a dr who will refer you.
Good luck :)

If you PM circangel saying what are you live in, he will give you some names of circ doctors so you can meet them yourself and make up your own mind.
If you're not sure about it and just want to find out, I'd say a doctor, most CHN's are silly IMO.
The internet has alot of great info to help you, especially bubhub. Just depends where you go as to what reaction and opinion you get!

Hey toni :)
I would speak to the GP as Mamalicious suggested. They will be able to tell you more about the procedure and the options you have - they may even have doctors that they reccommend.
Good luck :) I hope you find all the information you are looking for!
