Hi

I am about to renew my building insurance for our house so I am looking into both the building and contents.

Who are people with?

Thanks ;)

Commonwealth Bank- while I have transferred everything else away from them I keep this one. It includes fusion which many policies dont. So basically if you have a overload on your power circuit and blow your fridge they will replace it. Important because even if the electricity company is at fault in most states they arent legally liable to cover your appliances.

Also Ive never had a problem with the couple of small claims we have made. Quick and easy :D

i worked for cba for about 10 yrs... and have my had a break in last week and am putting in a claim now.

Initial thoughts are they're a pain to deal with and take 48-96 hrs to get back to you. So one the claim is resolved I'm going to review my options. Whats going to end up happening is I"m going to have to pay for the repairs and then submit them to them for reimbursement. So not real quick.

Heaps of policies contain fusion - check the wording. Eg the cba one does, but if the fridge is >10 yrs old then I dont think its covered.

My insurance agent said AAMI and CGU are really good to deal with

probably the important thing is not to get sold on the price as the cheaper policies might not cover you for as much.

End of the day you get what you pay for.

Suncorp. Have made a claim and had no trouble.

I rang a few places and got quotes and they came back with the cheapest.

We are with aami and they are fantastic. we were broken into last year and they were so great and supportive and quick. everything was replaced and nothing was too much of a hassel. highly reccommend them!!

Having been in the insurance industry for several years, I would say read the product disclosure schedule (PDS) to figure out if the insurer offers what you need. For instance, we live near a creek, so we wanted someone who offered flood damage; we don't have expensive things, so higher limits for valuables was not considered; if our water pipes/shower/toilet leaks we want cover for these things, so that was considered along with limits for these items.

It's a pain, but once you find the right policy, you don't really have to change unless they change their policy terms or you have a bad experience, so it's worth it IMO.

i'm with westpac and we are right in the middle of our first claim now, due to fusion. we lost use of computer, DVD/video and cable TV. they are slowly getting things repaired.....slowly. luckily we are not in a hurry. so that's a little disappointing to be honest. and to get the computer fixed, they were going to have it posted to sydney from brisbane to be assessed. how ridiculous. luckily, an assessor stepped in on our behalf and said he'll get it fixed in brisbane. still took two weeks though.

also, while overseas recently mty DH stood on his brand new glasses and snapped them and i discovered two diamonds in my ring had cracked and chipped, and then we discovered we weren't covered for accidental damage on our policy oh well.....what can you do.

i'm right in the middle of a big assessment of all our insurance needs. so that we start next year off on the right foot.

Funny this thread should come up actually- I have to renew my policy and have been checking around myself.

I think I will go with Aami- I already have my car insured through them. They have a quoting service on their website, and it is very, very reasonable! I am definately going to go with Aami this year!

I was with westpac (challenge over here) but they were charging a fortune.
We moved to GIO who charge half as much for the premium cover.

Gio has an online estimator - that was correct for us - if you are curious about the cost.

Also most places will allow you to add fusion to your cover. :)

yes, i'm sure we can do better than westpac. my DH has a habit of not shopping around and taking the first thing offered.

Lol my post wasn't aimed at you mysonroger.

We actually just took westpac because they were who our home loan was with, we didn't think anything of it until I did a little research and was rather surprised by the difference in prices!
I think i'd steer clear of any banks for insurance to be honest.

that's exactly the same as us. and even if i present him with an option that is cheaper, he will still umm and arrr about it and then come up with a reason to stick with westpac. he is so ultra conservative, its not funny...

Silly bugger. It's a shame you can't just change it yourself! :D

We are going to be using RACQ, as we already have the car through it, so we get a multi policy discount! Making it cheaper I hope, if not not sure where we'll go! Or should I say who we'd use!!!!

Hi. We have contents and car with RACQ. They're the cheapest we found and even cheaper with multiple policies. Plus pay by the month is a good option.

All our insurance, house, cars, landlord is with AAMI. To date we have been very happy with their service, but like all services, it's best to read their policies and decide which one suits your needs the best.

Hi

just a quick note....
We had a claim with comminsure on 22/11... a b&e.

Lodged it... they dont work weekends so it took 5 days to get the claims officer to ring back. 10 minute conversation then good bye, on to the next one.
I had to ring her 3 times, send 5 faxes and finally send a complaint to them before she rang me back.
Excuse was, we got the faxes and messages but our workload is too high. The fun part is waiting for them to ring you back to authorise the locksmith as our keys got stolen and wondering if someones going to be standing over your bed at night.
So I'm over 3 weeks into the claim and its still not resolved, and if you dont have any evidence (the police report isnt sufficent) they wont pay.

So I'd be very wary of comminsure.

Just my 2c.
