View Full Version : Nuk dummies
Just to let people know that there is a warning in Choice regarding Nuk dummies being able to be put fully in child's mouth as the mouth gaurd is not sufficient size to prevent this. I was using Nuk dummies and had seen DD put a signifigant portion in her mouth I briefly thought I hope she couldn't get it all in. Then my dad showed me the article and a few children had managed to get the whole dummy in their mouth. Fortunately no one has choked on them. Nuk were asked to respond and said parents should supervise children who use the dummies and if the mouth gaurd was bigger and it became caught in the child's mouth it would be harder to get out.
I am now not giving DD a dummy at all which has been a little tough but we are getting there. I would prefer to be safe than sorry. DD would only take Nuk dummies and I figure it is better to get rid of the dummy altogether rather than switching to another brand.
Someone started a thread about these dummies a little while ago......but a reminder is always good.

I hadn't realised that there was already a thread about this. I must have missed it. :)
No worries, just thought I'd put that there if anyone wants further info.;)
There are links from that thread to the choice website too.

Wow! DD has a couple of Nuk dummies. While she hasn't got a whole one in her mouth yet, I will more than likely be getting rid of them, as she has a mouth like mine - huge! (You may remember me from the 'party-trick' thread!! ;))
We had to take a rattle off her yesterday because she discovered that she could fit a large portion of it in her mouth & it made her very distressed as she got it right to the back of her throat & couldn't get it out. Mind you, this was all in the space of literally 3 seconds while both me & DH were sitting either side of her & both happened to be looking in another direction! I hate to think what would have happened if she had been unsupervised!
LOL- what a STUPID comment - that we should all supervise our kids using the dummies -- we do our best... but -
umm .. HELLO :banghead: ... the kids use the dummies to help settle and sleep (at least my boy does!!) .. how the heck am I supposed to supervise that??? I'm not going to sit next to him while he is settling in his cot/ carseat.. (would totally defeat the purpose.. he'd just talk to me!!! )
what a cop out... passing the buck instead of fixing the problem..
grrrr that just rubs me the wrong way!!
